Calamari[2][3] (also known as The Great Calamari, The Great Spumoni, The Great Linguini, Antipasto the Magnificent)[4][5] was an illusionist who stole the magic acts of Harry Houdini

History[]

As the Great Spumoni, he put on an act with the Cabinet of Mystery. Spumoni's volunteer, Irving, vanished and was never seen again.[6] Spumoni was jailed for the unexplained disappearance.[7] He changed his stage name to "The Great Linguini" then "Antipasto the Magnificent" and years later, "The Great Calamari." He took on Vanna as his assistant and got a gig at the Magic Theater in New York. During rehearsals, the ghost of Houdini plagued Calamari. The theater owner, Joe Magic, grew concerned and invited the Ghostbusters to the show.

After the ghost disrupted Calamari's act, Magic asked the Ghostbusters to capture the ghost. If they couldn't, Calamari was fired. Calamari had no choice to comply but feared the ghost would reveal his secrets and attempted to get rid of the Ghostbusters. Calamari distracted them with catching the ghost while he packed and prepared to flee the theater. Houdini and the Ghostbusters prevented his escape after part of the roof caved in. Calamari then attempted to shove the Ghostbusters into the Cabinet of Mystery but he fell in and was never seen again.

Trivia[]

  • Calamari had at least three former stage names: The Great Spumoni, The Great Linguini, and Antipasto the Magnificent. All of these are references to Italian food.
  • In the September 12, 1986 script, Calamari stated he was headed to Schenectady for two weeks at the Mohawk Inn.[8]
