The Ecto-Aroma Eliminator[1][2] (also known as EAE)[3] was an unsafe prototype designed to clean up after manifestations Class 3 and up.[4][5]

History[]

The Ecto-Aroma Eliminator was a device created by Egon Spengler as a way to get rid of the odors left behind by manifestations Class 3 and up. However, the prototype was far from finished and still experimental. Due to the unstable isotope housed inside it, the EAE could potentially take out an entire city block.[6][7] It starts out normally but as ectoplasmic material is absorbed, the internal reaction builds up until it explodes. Once turned on, it can't be turned off.[8]

Peter Venkman missed out on a staff meeting and was unaware of the danger this device was capable of. While giving a free guided tour to Kenny Fenderman, Peter gave the EAE to him. Kenny then showed it off to his would-be friends. Not one to be shown up, Willie Bradford challenged Kenny to stay the night at the Halliwell Mansion. Kenny accepted and attempted to use the EAE against Halliwell. The Ghostbusters were able to detect the radiation increase from the device with a Geiger Counter and raced off to save Kenny. As the Ghostbusters battled Halliwell, Peter deduced the near atomic power of the EAE's explosion could discorporate the ghost and render it safely trappable and able to be stored in the Containment Unit.

Trivia[]

  • On page 12 of Ghostbusters Issue #9, the Ecto-Aroma Eliminator makes a non-canon cameo. Egon looks at readings taken by it.
