History[]

Primary Canon History[]

Ghostbusters (1984)[]

The Firehouse was the location that the Ghostbusters used as a home base for their ghost-busting enterprise. It housed the men in the sleeping quarters formerly occupied by firemen and was the location of the Containment Unit. The Firehouse was also where the Ecto-1 was stored.

When the trio were touring the station in 1984 with the Realtor, Egon Spengler considered it unacceptable with it being in poor condition structurally, having unacceptable wiring for their equipment needs and it was in a bad neighborhood. However, when Ray Stantz, whose money is financing the operation, proved childishly delighted with the property, especially with the fire poles, his partners decided they had no choice but to purchase it.

Dana Barrett was their first real client. She visited the Firehouse two days after an incident at her apartment. She went to Janine Melnitz and asked to talk to someone. Peter Venkman narrowly jumped over his office gate and introduced himself. Peter, Egon, and Ray interviewed her on the second floor while she was hooked up to the Aura Video-Analyzer. She didn't care for Peter asking her what she thought or Egon's implication she was lying one way or another. Ray speculated it could be a case of past life experience intruding on present time. Egon thought it could be erased memories stored in the collective unconscious, clairvoyance, or telepathic contact. Dana was skeptical and scoffed. She apologized and admitted she did not believe in any of those things. Peter assured her he did not either. Peter walked behind Dana and gestured to Ray and Egon to make something up as he told her there were standard procedures they did in cases hers that gave them results. Ray figured he could go down to hall of records and check out the structural details in the building. He guessed the building itself could have a history of psychic turbulence. Peter nodded and agreed. Egon suggested he could look for the name Zuul in the usual literature, the Spates Catalogue or Tobin's Spirit Guide. Peter clumsily volunteered to go and check out her apartment with her.

It soon got to a point that the last of the Ghostbusters' petty cash was spent buying Chinese take out for dinner. Peter was unaware and wanted some petty cash to take Dana out to dinner so they didn't lose her. Ray revealed their situation. Peter stared then before Ray could take a bite, told him to slow down and chew his food. Janine's phone rang just as she was taking off her heels and putting on tennis shoes. She answered and confirmed to the caller the Ghostbusters were serious. She listened, paused, and sat back down. The caller told her something she couldn't believe. She readied a pencil and asked for the address. She promised they would be totally discreet and thanked the caller. She grinned and hung up then yelled, "We got one!" She slammed down the alarm buzzer. The klaxon activated. Everyone looked up. Ray realized it was a call and ran to the pole in the foreground and went down first. He yelped then rushed to open his foot locker in the middle. He called out to Peter and Egon to come on. Ray kicked off his shoes and readied his flightsuit as Peter landed with a carton. Egon yelped as he slid down. Ray had his flightsuit half on from the waist down. Ecto-1 sped out of the Firehouse, took a left, then another left.

Business picked up. After the alarm rang, Peter jogged out of the sleeping quarters. Ray pulled his pants up. Egon got out of his bed in his pajamas. He went to his night stand, grabbed his glasses, walked back out to the foot of his bed, turned around, and put on his glasses. Ray and Egon marched out of the room. Janine's phone was lit up. On one call, Janine asked the caller if the ghost looked like a mist, or if it had arms and legs. After another case, Ecto-1 pulled up to the Firehouse. Two fans, a man and a woman, were on the right side of Ecto-1. The woman opened the front passenger door. They asked a ragged looking Peter for his autograph as he got out. A man in a brown coat was on the left side snapping Polaroid photographs. As the Ghostbusters rested in their sleeping quarters, still in their flightsuits, Ray had a dream. It ended as Ray fell out of his real bed. The others thrashed in their sleep. One day, Winston Zeddemore responded to an ad in the newspaper and stopped to look up at the new Ghostbusters sign hanging outside the Firehouse. Janine interviewed Winston from her desk. She asked him if he believed in UFOs, astral projections, mental telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, spirit photography, telekinetic movement, full trance mediums, the Loch Ness monster and the theory of Atlantis. Winston replied if there was a steady paycheck in it, he would believe anything she said. The phone rang.

A weary Peter and Ray walked from the garage bay to the office. Both were smoking. Their flightsuits had some ectoplasmic residue splattered about. Janine was now standing, cradling the phone on her shoulder, and gathered papers. Ray stated he needed some sleep badly. Peter agreed he didn't look good. Winston turned his head and observed them. Ray was surprised by Peter's observation. Peter thought he looked better and didn't used to look like this. Ray looked down at the Trap he was holding with his right hand. Tons of articles were affixed to the back wall of Peter's office. Janine placed a caller on hold. Peter tossed an invoice on Janine's desk. She scoffed at the smoke from the Traps. Peter told her that was the paper on the Brooklyn and the female client paid with Visa. Janine handed out a piece of paper and told them that was the evening worksheet. Ray scanned it and moaned. He saw there were two more free repeaters. Ray walked to the basement steps. Janine brought Winston to their attention. She introduced him. Winston stood. Ray stopped and turned around. Ray took one look at him and hired him. He introduced himself and Winston. Peter congratulated Winston and shook his hand. Ray called him over for help then handed him the two Traps and welcomed him aboard. Winston took them both but was uneasy about it. Ray nodded with a grin.

Ray demonstrated how to empty a full Trap into the Containment Unit in the basement. Winston stood to Ray's left and watched. Egon was at a wall running some calculations. Ray called it a very simple process. He loaded the Trap here, opened, unlocked the system, inserted the trap, a red light came on, he released, he closed, he locked the system, he set the entry grid, he neutronized the field. The light switched to the green one. Ray declared the trap was clean and the ghost was incarcerated in their custom-made storage facility. Ray pushed the lever back up and tossed the handle of the Trap. Upstairs, Janine informed Peter about a man from the EPA who came to see him and was waiting in his office. Peter asked what he wanted. Janine told him she did not know but pointed out she had been working two weeks without a break and he promised her he was going to hire more help in the office. The phone rang. Peter remarked someone with her qualifications would have no trouble finding a topflight job in either the food service or housekeeping industries. He walked to his office and asked her if she was going to answer the phone. Janine grumbled she quit better jobs then pressed a button on the phone and snapped at the caller.

Walter Peck waited in Peter's office. He was seated on the couch. Peter entered and asked how he could help him. Peck introduced himself then stood. He continued that he represented the Environmental Protection Agency, the third district. Peter shook his hand and asked how it was going down there. Peck looked at the ectoplasmic residue on his hand and got out his handkerchief. Peter patted his shoulder and left more ectoplasm. Peck noticed it. Peck asked him if he was Peter Venkman. Peter sat at his desk and clarified he was "Dr. Venkman." Peck asked exactly what kind of doctor he was. Peter stated he had Ph.D.'s in parapsychology and psychology. He slightly gestured to his framed degrees on the wall. Peck noted he now caught ghosts. Peter found that acceptable. Peck walked to the office gate and turned around. He asked how many ghosts had been caught. Peter replied he was not at liberty to say. Peck asked where the ghosts went after they were captured. Peck walked a few more steps to the gate. Peter told him they went into a storage facility. Janine peeked at them. Peck asked if the storage facility was located on the premises. Peter confirmed that. Peck asked to see it. Peter said no. Peck asked why not and turned to Peter. Peter revealed he had not used the magic word. Peck pulled up one of the chairs and sat. He asked what was the magic word. Peter was shocked and answered, "Please." Peck sneered and asked if he could please see the storage facility. Peter asked why he wanted to see the storage facility Peck's demeanor changed. Peck admitted he was curious and wanted to know more about the Ghostbusters' operations in order assess for any possible environmental impact like the presence of noxious, possibly hazardous waste chemicals in their basement. Peck demanded to see the storage facility or he would come back with a court order. Peter told him to go get a court order. He stood and told Peck he would sue him for wrongful prosecution. Peck stood up and was face-to-face with Peter. Peck warned Peter he could have it his way.

Meanwhile, down in the basement, Egon revealed his alarming findings and admitted he was worried. He revealed it was getting crowded in the the Containment Unit and all his recent data pointed to something big on the horizon. Winston took a cigarette. Ray lit his cigarette then held a light for Winston. Winston asked Egon what he meant by "big." Egon explained with a Twinkie and used it to represent the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. Egon estimated that morning's sample indicated the Twinkie was 35 feet long weighing approximately 600 pounds. Ray coughed hard. Winston remarked, "That's a big Twinkie." Egon nodded and took a bite of the Twinkie. Peter came down the stairs. Ray believed they could be on the verge of a four-fold crossrip, a P.K.E. surge of incredible and even dangerous proportions. Peter walked over to the Containment Unit. He mentioned they had a visit from the Environmental Protection Agency then asked how the was grid holding up. Ray remarked not good. Winston gestured from Peter to Egon and implored him to talk about the Twinkie. Peter turned to them and was concerned. He inquired about the Twinkie.

On a Thursday night, a Police Sergeant knocked on the front door of the Firehouse. Janine Melnitz answered the door. She asked him if he was dropping off or picking up. The sergeant answered he was dropping off. She told him to wait just a moment. Janine closed the inner door. A paddy wagon was parked outside the Firehouse. A short time later, Egon Spengler came outside with Janine. The sergeant asked Egon if he was a Ghostbuster. Egon confirmed he was. The sergeant explained they picked up a perp but they had no idea what to do with him because Bellevue Hospital refused him and he was concerned about placing him in the lock-up. He knew about the Ghostbusters and figured they should confer with them. Egon agreed to weigh in. They walked over to the rear of the paddy wagon. Louis Tully was in the van in a straight jacket. Louis wearily asked Egon if he was the Gatekeeper. Egon scanned Louis with the P.K.E. Meter and watched as the readings quickly surged. Egon turned it off and turned to the sergeant and suggested they better bring him into the Firehouse. The sergeant nodded. Janine wrapped around one of his arms as they walked back to the Firehouse. The officer inside and the sergeant lifted Louis, as he stood in place, out of the van. Janine told Egon he was so kind to take care of that man and called him a real humanitarian. Egon remarked he did not think Louis was human. Janine turned her head to look at Louis as they entered the Firehouse.

Egon interviewed Louis on the second floor. Louis was hooked up to Aura-Video Analyzer. The helmet he wore was once a normal colander. The screen displayed the image of a Terror Dog. Egon stared at the screen and turned it off. He asked Louis what he said his name was. Louis replied he was Vinz Clortho, Keymaster of Gozer. Janine looked at Louis's wallet and told Egon his name was Louis Tully and he lived on Central Park West. Janine held the wallet out to Egon. He took it and looked at it. Louis mimicked Egon and also extended his arm to take it. Janine offered Louis some coffee. Louis asked Egon if he did. Egon told him, "Yes, have some." Louis repeated what Egon said. Janine made a face and walked over to the kitchen area. Egon placed the wallet in a coat pocket and sat down. There was a lot of drinks and food on the dining table. Egon recalled Vinz talked about waiting for a sign and asked him what the sign was. Louis answered it was the coming of Gozer in one of the pre-chosen forms. He reminisced about some of Gozer's past conquests. There was the Rectification of the Vuldronaii, when the Traveler came as a large and moving Torb. Egon looked towards Janine. He also recalled during the Third Reconciliation of the Last of the Meketrex Supplicants, they chose a new form for him, that of a giant Sloar. Janine looked back at Egon. Vinz chuckled at the thought of how many Shubs and Zulls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of a Sloar that day. Janine called Egon and gestured him to come over. The Cheez Its box was on the table near Egon. Egon excused himself and walked over to Janine. She told him there was something very strange about Louis. Louis sniffed a clear jar of popcorn as he rotated it. Janine admitted she was usually very psychic, and she had a terrible feeling that something awful was going to happen to Egon. Louis wiped his left cheek with a pizza slice. Janine revealed she believed he was going to die. She went into Egon's arms. He looked up and placed his right arm around her.

The phone rang. Louis jumped and looked around. Egon quickly picked up the phone. Louis picked up the base of the phone. Egon took it from him. The call was from Peter. Egon thanked Louis for his help. Peter announced he had some news from the world of Gozer. Egon asked Peter what it was. Peter informed Egon he was with Dana and Gozer made some moves on his would-be girlfriend. Egon asked how she was doing. Peter quipped he thought they could get her a guest shot on Wild Kingdom then revealed he just whacked her up with about 300 cc's of Thorazine. Peter noted she was saying she was the Gatekeeper and asked Egon if that made any sense to him. Egon revealed he just met the Keymaster. Louis lifted up the coffee pot and took a drink. Peter thought that was wonderful and they should get them together. Louis with his mouth full, made an odd but cheery face at them. Janine was now sitting next to Egon. Egon thought that would be extraordinarily dangerous. Peter relented and advised Egon to hold onto the Keymaster and he would head back to the Firehouse. Egon liked the idea and placed the phone back on the receiver. Louis walked over and gave Egon a frying pan. Egon thanked him then turned to Janine and stressed they needed to find Ray and get him back immediately. Louis picked up a lamp and gave it to Egon.

On Friday morning, Walter Peck returned to Firehouse with documents, a Con Edison Man, and a Police Captain. The police captain stepped in through an inner door on the front door followed by the Con Edison worker and Peck. The Con Edison worker closed the inner door. Peck told them to follow him. They walked on. The Con Edison worker looked up at everything and lost pace with them. Janine cut them off. Janine held out her left hand to stop but they kept walking. She kept saying, "Excuse me" but they kept walking. She asked them where they thought they were going. Peck told her to stand aside or he would have her arrested for interfering with a police officer. She cut him off and recalled from TV that he needed a warrant, a writ or something to come inside. Peck raised the manila envelope and listed off the contents: A Cease and Desist All Commerce order, a Seizure of Premises and Chattels, a Ban on the Use of Public Utilities for Non-Licensed Waste Handlers, and a federal Entry and Inspection order. They continued on. Janine stared.

Egon Spengler looked through parts on a shelf in the basement. Louis Tully was with him. Egon told him there was one more test he wanted to perform. Peck, the police captain, and the Con Edison man came down the stairs. Janine ran down the steps after them and beat the Con Edison man. Janine told Egon she tried to stop them but Peck said he had a warrant. Egon held out his right arm. Louis mimicked him. Egon stated they were on private property. Peck ignored him and pointed at the Containment Unit and the panels then ordered everything to be shut off. Egon pointed at them and warned turning off the machines would be extremely hazardous. Louis mimicked Egon and pointed, too. Peck was not swayed and told him the Ghostbusters were facing federal prosecution for at least half a dozen environmental violations. He again ordered Egon to shut everything off and threatened they would shut them off for him if he did not. Egon, Janine, and Louis were now planted in front of the control panels. Egon tried to explain it was a high voltage laser containment system and simply turning it off would be like dropping a bomb on the city. Peck thought was being patronizing and stated he was not grotesquely stupid like the people they bilked. The Con Edison man stared at the Containment Unit.

Peter Venkman came down the stairs. He softly patted the police captain on the back. The captain turned his head to Peter. Peter introduced himself and tried to defuse the situation by stressing it was a slight misunderstanding and he would cooperate in any way that he could. Peck was not buying it and pointed out he had his chance to cooperate but chose to have fun and be insulting. Peck declared it was his turn. Egon informed Peter that Peck wanted to shut down the protection grid. Louis looked at Egon with a slight grin. Peter quickly stated they were not going to be held responsible. Peter and Peck began talking at the same time. Peck told him they were going to be held responsible. Peter disagreed. Peck ordered the Con Edison worker to shut it off. Peck walked to the Con Edison man. Peter told him not to. The Con Edison man turned to Peter and Peter pointed his right index at the Containment Unit. Peter warned him. The Con Edison worker pointed out he never saw anything like the Containment Unit before and he was unsure. Peck was not interested in his opinion and told him to just shut it off. With unease on his face, he turned to walk to the control panels. Peter got in the Con Edison Man's face and told him not to be a jerk. The police captain leaned in and made space between the two. The captain ordered Peter to step aside. Peck told the captain if he did that again, he could shoot him. The captain took offense to being told how to do his job. Peter thanked the captain. Peck yelled at the Con Edison worker to shut the grid off. The Con Edison man looked at Peck then the captain then at Peck again. Peter looked over to Egon. The Con Edison Man went to the control panels. Egon stepped away and mimed an explosion with his fingers and mouthed "Boom." Peter, Egon, and Janine made their way to the stairs. Louis watched the Con Edison Man up close. The Con Edison Man pulled a gray lever down. The lights dimmed and several alarms went off. The red light above the Containment Unit flashed.

The D.C. Microamperes gauge plummeted from 100 to 0. The Con Edison worker, police captain, and Peck looked around. The Con Edison worker realized he made a terrible mistake and swore. The walls of the basement rumbled. Peck backed away. Steam erupted from between the bricks. The Con Edison worker ran. Louis was thrilled. Everyone ran for it. Bricks popped out of their place. As everyone ran outside, Egon yelled out to anyone else to clear the building. Louis ran out last. Sparks and smoke poured out of the front doors. The roof exploded. People around the area paused and looked at the Firehouse. A pink beam of psychokinetic energy streamed out of the hole in the Firehouse's roof. People ran off. Peter shielded his face and exclaimed. Louis proclaimed that was the sign. He walked past Janine, who stood in front of the Con Edison van. She agreed it was a sign, a sign they were going out of business. Ecto-1 slowly drove up with its siren on and parked on the street. A crowd gathered behind the police barricades at N. Moore and Varick. Ray and Winston finally returned from a call. Police officers and fire fighters converged on the Firehouse. Ray hopped over to Peter and Egon by the Con Edison van and red car. Ray asked Egon what happened. Egon informed him the storage facility blew, pointed at Peck, and revealed Peck had the protection grid shut off. Ray was beside himself. Winston guessed that was bad. Ray confirmed and nodded. Peter asked where the Keymaster went. Egon swore and could not believe they lost him. The Ghostbusters were about to take off in search of Louis but Peck, the Police Captain and some police officers barred their way. Fire fighters from 509 had arrived and readied a hose. Peck ran to the Ghostbusters and told them to hold it. Peck wanted the Ghostbusters arrested. He told the captain they were in criminal violation of the Environmental Protection Act, and the explosion was a direct result of it. Egon exclaimed, "Your mother!" in response then lunged forward and grabbed Peck's collar. Police tried to keep order. The civilians behind the barricade cheered on the scuffle. Peter chimed in and asked if the police heard what Peck called him.

Ghostbusters II[]

The second floor and the basement underwent several repairs and changes between 1984 and 1989. The second floor's lab and kitchen area were given new layouts. Louis' desk was placed between Janine's and the garage bay on the first floor. There was also a room used to process photographs and a R&D room. In late 1989, after the Ghostbusters went back in business, Janine told callers that they were back. Louis walked out the Firehouse after Ecto-1a and yelled out to them to only accept certified check, cash or money order. After another call came in, the Ghostbusters slid down a pole. Winston was in the tan flightsuit, Egon and Peter in the charcoal. Peter shouted, "Yee-ha!" Slimer ate food out of Louis's lunch box in the Firehouse garage bay and made a mess. A Fritos bag was open. A chocolate snack was eaten. Only a red apple was untouched. Louis walked to the bay area. He shouted to Janine it was lunch time then remarked to himself it smelled like someone took a dump. Louis and Slimer saw each other and paused. Louis dropped his files. They both screamed and fled in opposite directions.

The Ghostbusters gathered around a table on the second floor of the Firehouse. Egon Spengler took a sample of the Psychomagnotheric Slime in tupperware out of the microwave. Ray explained to Peter and Winston that they were experimenting with the ectoplasm they found in the Van Horne subway tunnel. Peter jokingly asked if he should get spoons. Egon told him not to bother and cued Ray to demonstrate their discovery. It was 2:30 on the clock on the wall by the refrigerator. Ray angrily shouted at the ectoplasm and insulted it, calling it a "worthless piece of slime" and "ignorant, disgusting blob." The Psychomagnotheric ectoplasm bubbled in reaction to Ray's shouting. Egon joined in called it "nothing but an unstable, short-chain molecule." Ray called it a "foul, obnoxious muck." Egon derided its weak electrochemical bond! Winston and Peter looked at each other. Winston stopped Ray mid-insult. Egon flashed his hands to stop. Peter asked them if this is what they did with their spare time. Ray pointed out it was an incredible breakthrough, the discovery of a psychoreactive substance. He explained it reacted to human emotional states. Peter nicknamed it "Mood slime." Egon turned away in disbelief. Peter admired it. It bubbled. Winston got that it feed on bad vibes. Ray confirmed it was like a cop in a doughnut factory. Egon revealed they were running tests to see if they could get an equally strong positive reaction. Peter inquired what kind of tests they performed. Ray carefully replied they sang to it and told it supportive, nurturing things. Peter got to the point and wanted to know they were not sleeping with it. There was an awkward silence and sense of uneasiness from Ray and Egon. Peter and Winston teased them. Winston remarked it was always the quiet ones. Peter called Ray a hound.

Egon suggested a demonstration of the kinetic test. He took a toaster from the kitchen counter and stated it was an ordinary household one. Peter quipped he was taking him for his word on that. Ray placed some of the ectoplasm into the toaster with a spoon. Egon placed the toaster on the billiards table. Ray explained the ectoplasm responded to music so they tried easy listening, middle-of-the-road type stuff like Paul Young and "Dust In The Wind." Peter joked it worked for him. Egon revealed it loved Jackie Wilson. Jackie Wilson's "(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher" was played. Peter kept joking and asked them if this was what they did at night when he was not around the Firehouse. He joked he thought the toaster sounded exactly like Jackie. Egon told him to just watch. Peter asked if it could do Emmylou Harris. The toaster hopped up. Peter realized it danced, too. The toaster moved around like it was dancing. The guys smiled. Ray played along. The toaster ejected toast. Egon caught them. The music was turned off. Peter hugged the toaster and happily declared it was his number one Christmas boutique gift item. Winston was suspicious it would eat someone's hand the minute someone got mad. Peter stated they would put a warning label on it for liability reasons then recoiled in pain. Egon quickly took the toaster away. It was just a prank. Peter gestured like he poked Egon's eyes and relished how easily they fell for it. Ray screamed as they tussled playfully.

That night, Ray and Egon were running more experiments with two jars of Psychomagnotheric ectoplasm they collected. Ray was wearing a skullcap with wires attached to a jar. They got a call from Peter. He told Ray Dana came over to his place because her tub tried to eat her. "Flesh 'N Blood" played in the background. Ray asked if he was serious then got excited then backpedaled to say what happened was terrible but great for their research. Peter cut him off. Ray promised they would get right on it and hung up. He told Egon there was a major slime-related psychokinetic event. Egon made some adjustments to a blower gun. He asked what happened. Ray relayed what Peter told him. Egon asked if they were all right. Ray confirmed she got out of there and went over to Peter's. Egon remembered something and placed the blower gun down. He brought up the Vigo painting and revealed he ran the name 'Vigo the Carpathian' through the Occult Reference Net. Egon typed and presented a search result. They looked at the Hewlett Packard computer screen. It read, "ZUNDINGER, LEON. MAGICIANS, MARTYRS AND MADMEN Chapter 6, PP. 128-145 Vigo the Carpathian (1505-1610) Sixteenth century Carpathia was in a constant state of spiritual turmoil due principally to the despotic rule of PRINCE VIGO VON HOMBURG DEUTSCHENDORF, tyrant, sorcerer and psychotic autocrat." Ray called it a "nice ugly history" and deduced there was a connection between Vigo and the ectoplasm. Some ectoplasm bubbled in the jar. Egon asked him if the atomic weight of cobalt 58.9. He nodded. They took off their labcoats. Ray went for his leather jacket on a cot. Ray was eager to check out the bathtub in Dana's apartment. Egon proposed they go to the Manhattan Museum of Art in the morning and get a look at that painting. Ray reached for a P.K.E. Meter. Egon swung his suit jacket over his left shoulder and grabbed the Giga Meter with his right hand and they left for Dana's apartment.

The next day, Janine was ending a phone call. She told the caller that the Ghostbusters could not get to their case until after the New Year. Janine listened to the caller's response and covered up her computer. She suggested not going in there and hung up then yelled out to Louis that she was closing up for the day. Louis wondered if he should take the subway, the surface roads, or something else. He noted it was kind of busy out. She stated she was walking and bid him good night. Louis stopped her and awkwardly asked her out to dinner. Janine replied she would love that but had to go babysit for Peter. Louis was bummed. Janine invited him to babysit with her. He accepted. She told him to meet her at Peter's apartment at 8 pm. Janine walked off. Louis stood in the middle of the crosswalk talking to himself. He told himself he could get Peter's address from the W2 form. A driver called him a dummy and told him to move. Cars honked at him. He stepped out of the way and directed the cars. Ray and Egon processed Peter's photographs of Vigo in a photo lab set up somewhere in the Firehouse. Ray pinned one on the line. Egon used a magnifying lens. Egon confirmed Ray was right and there were multi-planar Kirlian emanations present. Ray joked about Vigo being next month's cover of GQ. He believed there definitely a living presence. Egon proposed taking a deeper look. Ray suggested putting the wider shot through the Spectral analyzer. Egon agreed and tried turning up the Roentgens. Ray fed a photograph into the Spectral analyzer, which looked like a copy machine. Egon pressed some buttons on a pad. Ray changed the subject to dinner. He pitched Chinese. Egon countered with Thai. Ray found it too spicy and suggested Greek. Egon asked about Mexican. Ray suggested Pizza. Egon asked if they should get thin or thick. Ray wanted Chicago. A photograph came out of the analyzer. Egon hung it up. The photograph was of the floating head of Vigo and the River of Slime. Egon was shocked and picked up the magnifying lens. The lab door's deadbolt moved on its own and locked the door. Ray instantly recognized it. Egon inquired where he saw it. Ray informed him it was the River of Slime he saw under First Avenue. Suddenly, the photographs ignited. They ran to the door and realized it was locked. Ray started thinking of what to grab like a blanket of hose. Egon chose the simple solution, get out of the room. Ray realized the door was locked. Egon and Ray called out to Winston Zeddemore. Ray suggested going in other direction. Egon sarcastically asked if they were going to stick their heads in the toilet. Winston broke through the door and used a fire extinguisher on the photographs.

On New Year's Eve, Janine and Louis returned to the Firehouse after the latter briefed the Ghostbusters at the Parkview Psychiatric Hospital about the current state of chaos in the city. Janine helped Louis suit up in one of Egon's spare flightsuits. She found him fantastic in it. Louis declared he was born to wear it. They kissed. The font doors opened and Louis dashed outside the Firehouse in full gear, wearing a Proton Pack. He stopped and remarked the equipment was heavy.

After Ghostbusters II[]

Business got slow and hauntings got thin. Peter thought they did their job too well. It went from ten calls a week to one if the Ghostbusters were lucky. They could barely keep up their mortgage. To complicate matters, Egon started to tell people that their ghost problems were irrelevant because the world was coming to an end. Ray arrived at the Firehouse one morning and Ecto-1, Egon's Proton Pack, all of the Traps, and 16 ounces of fuel isotope were gone along with Egon. The final nail was when some actor bought up most of Tribeca, and they lost the firehouse. It later became a Starbucks.[4]

Ghostbusters: Afterlife[]

After the battle in Summerville in June 2021, Winston purchased the Firehouse.[Note 1] One day, Winston entered the rundown Firehouse through one of the inner doors and looked up a fire pole in the garage bay. The doors of the Firehouse opened up. Winston motioned the driver to drive Ecto-1 inside. He placed a hand on the hood. In the basement, a red light on the Containment Unit was blinking. It made an odd sound.

Secondary Canon History[]

Ghostbusters: The Video Game[]

The Firehouse is the central hub in The Video Game. In the Terminal Reality Version, in several cutscenes, the Firehouse is shown. In the Redfly Studios version of the game, the building is much more simplified, consisting of the main floor (complete with Ecto-1), the basement (complete with non-interactive containment grid, Insulting Vigo, and Tobin's Spirit Guide), and the Upstairs Portion (Egon's lab for all intents and purposes).

In the upper Floors, the player can slide down the fire-pole, replay past missions, and view the interactive credit sequence. In the Garage, the player can continue the mission by visiting the Ecto-1. There is also a large sub-basement storage area which appears to have been an old abandoned subway platform, complete with a partially bricked up rail tunnel. The Firehouse itself is full of "easter eggs" and callbacks to the two films, including two pairs of old/spare car doors from Ecto-1, the outdoor sign with the "Ghostbusters II" logo, a P.K.E. Meter nearly identical to the design used in "The Real Ghostbusters" cartoon and several disc shaped traps that bare a resemblance to the ones from "The Extreme Ghostbusters" cartoon.

After the Ghostbusters returned from their first call, Janine asked them how it went. Peter gave the invoice to Janine to file. She was shocked by the $5000 bill and asked for a raise. Peter contended it was one gig and they needed to fill the gas tank. He proposed they walk to Canal Street and if the hot dog cart was still open, dinner was on him. She declined and was revolted by the ectoplasmic residue on the bill. Peter offered to include chili. Ray was open to a couple hot dogs. Egon pointed out he literally just ate. Ray reminded him their dinner was interrupted by the call then asked him if he was hungry. Egon stated he was too excited to eat because they were on the verge of a clean sweep of functional equipment. He declared they were close to fully realizing a new branch of scientific endeavor, moved fully from theoretical to the practical. Ray thought he was tingling. Egon told him there was cream upstairs then realized what he meant. He recalled the Ecto Goggles weren't sterilized then pulled out the Containment Unit's hatch. They deposited Slimer but the unit made an odd noise. The red alert activated and they were knocked on their backs. Egon speculated the field was not properly neutronized. Suddenly, a P.K.E. Meter lit up. They ran up the stairs and saw Slimer by the lockers with the prototype Proton Grenade. Ray and Egon put on their packs and chased after it. Luckily, Slimer was victim to his own gluttony and was recaptured by Egon at Tribeca Park nearby.

Winston Zeddemore found the Ghostbusters' help wanted ad in the classifieds after he quit a construction job and set up an interview with Janine Melnitz. After they shook hands, Janine asked if he found the Firehouse easily enough. Winston noted he saw the sign. Janine was pleased since the guys were always worried no one would notice it. After a long day, Janine was too tired to go through Winston's resume and told him to tell her about his background. Winston barely finished listing his six years in the Marine Corps and a little construction when Janine stopped him and mused she was hearing him say he could lift a hundred pounds. Winston thought the ad said 70. Janine was pleased he was good at comprehension and recall. She had a good feeling about him but warned she had to ask him the next part and asked him not to look at her like she was crazy. Janine asked him if he believed in UFOs, astral projections, mental telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, spirit photography, telekinetic movement, full trance mediums, the Loch Ness Monster, and the theory of Atlantis. Winston was kind of stunned but replied as long as there was a steady paycheck in it, he would believe anything she said. Ray hired him on the spot.

Not even half an hour later, Ray taught Winston how to empty a Trap into the Containment Unit. Next, Ray took Winston up to the roof for a brief tutorial on using the Proton Pack. In 15 minutes, he shot three pumpkins each on the first try. Winston believed people down on the street below wouldn't like pumpkin guts raining down on them. Ray assured him it was just another quirky part of the city they loved. A citizen shouted up at them to stop it. Ray yelled back it was for science. The citizen told him to eat his science. Ray replied he did so every Thanksgiving for dessert then turned back to Winston and told him he really picked up on the nuances of the pack even faster than he'd hoped and concluded he was ready for field work. Winston was bewildered and didn't think he had enough training with the weapon. Ray corrected him it was a tool. Winston was not confident he had enough training to be safe with it. Ray brought up his control of the Proton Stream and great aim then leveled with him. They were going to get even busier soon and needed him to hit the ground running. About two days later, the Ghostbusters got a call from Excelsior State University. As they suited up, Peter told Winston to never let the customer think the bust was a cakewalk, especially if it was, and no haggling. Egon informed Winston he added a vibration function to the P.K.E. Meter handle to direct him and the arms raised higher when an entity was in close proximity. Egon also warned him to never push two buttons at the same time. Winston asked if he would be electrocuted. Egon went with that. As Ray got into the driver's seat of Ecto-1, he told Winston he was going to fit in great. He also wanted to discuss his theories about Sasquatch migration in the Pacific Northwest and how it tied into extraterrestrial visitation patterns at a later time. Winston reluctantly agreed to it.

At some point after Winston was hired, Roger Delacorte went to the Firehouse out of desperation and pleaded his case with Janine. Janine tried to tell them how busy the Ghostbusters had become. Roger noted he left several messages but Janine informed him she took them and passed along all messages to the Ghostbusters. She emphasized they were incredibly busy. Ray and Peter happened to return from a bust at the Consulate General of Canada of New York but hit a snag with payment because the Canadian government had to approve first. Ray recognized Roger. Roger apologized for the intrusion then informed him the situation with the Library ghost had gotten worse. Peter changed out of his flightsuit and told Roger to make an appointment because preferential treatment was beneath them. Ray scolded him. Peter insisted something had to be. Roger told Ray the ghost was actively harassing the patrons. Peter finally remembered he was from the public library and admitted he would love another crack. He told Ray to make him deal and considered 18 or 20 percent. Roger was crestfallen and admitted their budgetary discretion was limited. Ray recalled he was a big help to them early on in their studies and promised they would finish what they started if he could get them into the library after hours. Rebecca Morales visited Winston at the Firehouse and interviewed him for her book about the Ghostbusters while he worked on Ecto-1. He noted Peter had the gift of gab. Janine told her he might sometimes leap before he looks.

After the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man was blown up, Egon Spengler stayed at the Firehouse almost 24 hours, 7 days a week.[5] In need of funds to start repairs on the Firehouse and Containment Unit, Egon agreed to be involved in a book interview that Peter brokered with a publishing company.[6] However, a trespasser sneaked into the Firehouse and tried to score a souvenir. Instead, the person almost fell through the big hole in the floor on the ground level.[7] As a result, the NYPD First Precinct posted Officer Mike outside the Firehouse to deter any other looters.[8] A few weeks later, Winston walked the book's writer, Rebecca Morales, to the Firehouse. Rebecca inquired about HG Huges. Winston warned her not to ask Egon about him and revealed that was one of Peter Venkman's pranks. He once fell for it and got a two-hour lecture about the theoretical benefits of drilling a hole in your head. Rebecca was glad she asked, although she wasn't sure the escort was necessary. Winston assured her it was. He presented the exterior of the Firehouse, still in disrepair since the explosion. He informed her the police weren't letting just anybody in. Winston talked to Officer Mike and let him know Rebecca was going inside to meet with Egon. Mike wished her good luck with that then shouted to watch their step. Rebecca saw the hole and asked Winston if it was safe inside. Winston reminded her there was an explosion. He looked around and found Egon in the basement.

Egon was scanning around the Containment Unit with the Gamma Rate Meter. Winston told him to be nice to the visitor. Egon deduced it was about the book. Rebecca shook his hand and introduced herself. She joked he was a hard man to get a hold of. Egon told her he was extremely busy and only agreed to the interview because Peter said the fee was contingent on his involvement. Rebecca was eager to get started. She started her recorder and asked Egon how he got interested in parapsychology and ghosts. Egon told her he didn't believe there are things man wasn't meant to know and ghosts were simply the first thing he was able to conclusively prove. He mused he would follow the trail until it ran cold or until something more interesting presented itself. Rebecca turned to the Containment Unit and asked if that was were the ghosts were stored then asked him if he ever thought that exploding as soon as it lost power was a major design flaw. She pointed out blackouts could happen. Egon asked her where she heard that. Rebecca looked at the hole in the unit and told him she was very thorough then asked why there was no failsafe. Egon was annoyed and stated it was a fully secured system. He explained the unit should have been fine without power for awhile but the massive increase in ambient psychokinetic energy brought on by Gozer's approach and the ghosts in the unit were attracted to it like iron to a magnet. Rebecca asked if that was an admission of fault. Egon denied it and pointed out he was not the one who ordered the power to be turned off. He asserted the scenario would be accounted for when the unit was rebuilt. She asked him if he thought ghosts would continue to be a problem, citing regular sightings diminished after the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man exploded. Egon thought some would continue to be a problem like the first ghost they captured. Winston recalled Ray's story about it escaping the first time they tried to put it in the unit. Rebecca was mock surprised something else escaped from the fully secured system. Egon sarcastically thanked Winston for bringing it up. Winston excused himself to run an errand. Rebecca wanted to hear the story.

Egon and Rebecca retired to the second floor as he recalled Ray abruptly told him to stall Slimer then ran off. Rebecca was surprised Ray left him alone since it took the three of them to catch the ghost in the first place. Egon ate some Cheez Its and half joked he was lucky Slimer was driven more by impulse than intelligence like Peter in college. He continued with the confrontation in Tribeca Park. She thought it sounded exhausting and asked him if he looked in the Trap again. Egon replied he did not but the pigeons did. She asked what happened to Ray. Egon recalled he went dumpster diving at the Square Diner for bait. Rebecca asked if that was it. Egon admitted it was an embarrassing but harmless anecdote that ultimately had one benefit -- it proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, that it was not safe to go solo on busts. Rebecca moved to shake his hand to conclude the session but wanted to schedule a follow-up. She was suddenly taken over by an Unidentified Possessor and levitated to the ceiling. The entity taunted Egon that his luck would not last forever. Egon held out a Trap and threatened it to let Rebecca go or else. The entity was amused by the idle threat and stated it could destroy him but it was not his time yet. It declared his doom was coming and he could not prevent it. It used telekinesis to knock the Trap away. The entity wanted its warning to consume him and punish him. Everything went flying and pink ectoplasm was emitted as it left Rebecca's body. Egon assured her it was a minor ghost encounter. Rebecca was angered about being slimed. Peter arrived and asked Rebecca if she mentioned HG Huges yet. She shoved him away and stormed out of the Firehouse. Peter teased Egon they looked like a Times Square theater. Egon informed him she was briefly possessed. Peter asked what the ghost wanted. Egon admitted he did not know but promised to find out.

The Firehouse suffered occasional incursions from various entities, Fred, Koza'Rai, and a Zombie. Egon and Kylie battled the Terror Birds on the first floor for about 10 minutes then worked to safely extract them from Dana and Louis. They re-examined them again on the second floor. The other Ghostbusters soon returned and found Vigo was back in his painting. Because of his lapses on the field, Ray was taken to the laboratory on the second floor and subjected to the Aura Video-Analyzer. Peter and Dana had a one-on-one talk as Egon studied Ray's data. However, Ray became possessed and rose up into mid-air causing equipment to malfunction and overheat. Egon, Peter, and Winston tried in vain to free Ray from possession by Gozer and Tiamat. After they were soundly defeated, Gozer went down to the basement to extract his captured essence from the Containment Unit. The unit's biometric security prevented him from gaining access. Peter, Egon, and Winston caught up and managed to wrangle him before he could attack the unit. However, Tiamat took over and dented the unit's hull. Powerless to stop Tiamat with their equipment, the Ghostbusters were at an impasse. Winston offered himself as a sacrifice and tore live wires from a panel. Ray and Egon manually vented the Containment Unit to prevent the catastrophic explosion. As a consequence, Ellen Gold was released. She immediately tried to manifest familiar surroundings but due to being a long distance away from the original Wander Hills Orphanage, Gold wasn't completely successful. [9] Peter, Egon, and Ray set out to recapture Gold and later the Crybaby Ghost. Once Gold was trapped, the basement returned to normal.

At some point, a proximity alarm was added to go off when something paranormal got close to the Firehouse perimeter. [10] Egon, Donatello, Ray, and April O'Neil started work on building another Interspatial Teleportation Unit while the others set off for a third battle with Chi-You. Once they returned with Casey Jones, he was given a quick examination. Egon and Donatello continued working on the teleporter. Ray, April, and Kylie worked on an EMP device to sever the connection between Chi-You and his thralls in one move. The others simply waited. Chi-You ordered his thralls to attack the exterior of the Firehouse. Even the signage was ripped down and damaged. They kicked down the Firehouse doors and drew most of the Ghostbusters and Turtles to the first floor. In the meantime, Chi-You teleported to the second floor and prevented Ray, April, and Kylie from activating their Electromagnetic Pulse Emitter. Casey triggered the pulse and changed the thralls back to normal. The Ghostbusters and Turtles converged on Chi-You upstairs while Egon and Donatello raced to stabilize the containment grid after their test of the Interspatial Teleportation Unit hit a snag. The battle raged on when Chi-You possessed Winston but was exorcised by Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael's efforts. Peter ended the battle and trapped Chi-You. A short while later, everyone gathered in the basement for a sending off.

The Ghostbusters went down to the basement and monitored Ray's journey to the alternate team's home dimension. After learning the controlling entity was Proteus, they went back to the second floor and conducted research on him. Almost everyone. Ray analyzed the P.K.E. readings he took and found a weakness to exploit, potential susceptibility to quantum interruption. The Egons and Rays went down to the garage bay and worked on Proton Grenades and Proton Packs over the next hour. The Cerberus Manifestation crossed over and arrived on Varick and Moore. It crashed through the Firehouse onto the second floor. Kylie activated the Wall-Trap to distract it. All of the Ghostbusters reunited downstairs and suited up. They opened fire on the manifestation but it resisted. Kylie grabbed the Megatrap and managed to capture enough of it's P.K.E. to reduce its form to ash. However, Proteus had also arrived. He stood atop the Ecto-1 in the garage bay.

Proteus blasted away the bottom half of the stairwell leading up to the second floor, punched a massive hole through the second floor, decimating the recreation area, and caused more damage after he dropped down and stomped the garage bay. Repairs continued on the Firehouse. The one piece of good news was the integrity of the Containment Unit was maintained. However, the damage caused by Proteus still needed a massive amount of money and effort to repair. Egon even proposed a serious discussion about decentralizing operations to their other properties. A policeman named Brent Mitchell arrived at the front door looking for the Ghostbusters on account of the phones being disconnected. They took off for Staten Island to look into a weird break-in. Shortly after the Staten Island case, the last few repairs were almost done. The Paranormal Contracts Oversight Commission erred on the side of safety to comply with and keep the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) satisfied. [11] While most of the Ghostbusters were on Poveglia on assignment by Erland Vinter, Janine conducted interviews at the Firehouse for the open position on her support staff. She had Kylie let in the first applicants at 2 pm. Two hours later, Kylie brough some Pequod's to Janine and Jenny as they went over applications.

Peter, Ray, and Winston returned home from their assignments abroad in Europe and joined the staff on the third floor to review footage sent over to the Firehouse from Egon's apartment after a captured Gulper Ghost was freed. They were stunned to see Egon's apparent demise. While Kylie and Melanie checked out the apartment and Peter irritated Janine, the others conducted research on the Rauoskinna mentioned on the video. Egon's research was found in a logbook but they still needed an Egon to interpret it. Peter, Winston, and Janine went through the Interspatial Teleportation Unit to the parallel dimension occupied by the Ghostbusters they recently met. While Kylie, Jenny, and Melanie waited, a Granny Gross ghost crossed over from the portal. Melanie distracted it while Kylie and Jenny ran off to grab some equipment. Peter, Winston, Janine, and parallel Egon happened to return soon after and captured the ghost. After reading the logbook and listening to accounts of recent cases, the parallel Egon affirmed they were likely being manipulated into finding the Rauoskinna. Kaia May appeared and verified they were pawns of Erland Vinter and his master Loftur Þorsteinsson. She gave them a list of possible locations for a key and map to the Rauoskinna and issued them a deal, the Rauoskinna for Egon's restoration.

While the Ghostbusters left New York with Kylie, Melanie, parallel Egon to search for the key and Map to Nikulausson's Tomb, Janine and Jenny were left to respond to the cases. Kevin was left in charge of the Firehouse in the meantime. 36 hours after the key and map were found, Kylie finished drawing the map in the lab from memory after she had to destroy the original. The Ghostbusters returned from Iceland with the Rauoskinna in their possession. While it was studied, the parallel dimension Egon took the off time to study the city's P.K.E. readings and was fascinated with the similarities and differences between dimensions. A day and a half later, Winston needed a breather from the Rauoskinna research and went to the roof. He found parallel Egon looking at readings. Winston admitted the last couple of years were crazy. Egon inquired what he meant. Winston talked about how things had escalated from everyday busts to gods and alternate dimensions. Egon shared he was of the firm belief that challenges increased to match one's capabilities and to consider otherwise would be to accept stagnation and/or irrelevance. Winston remarked he was starting to sound like his old commanding officer. Egon shared something he wondered about since their first encounter - if they both faced the same Gozer or not and if Gozer's defeat created a splintered multiverse and ripple effects they were still feeling. He reassured Winston they led a more extraordinary life than most and that came with extraordinary ups and downs. Winston asked if he had any regrets about the job. He admitted he missed teaching.

Meanwhile, in the lab, Kylie, Ray, and Jenny continued looking over the Rauoskinna. Ray speculated the real book itself was the real key to the spells it contained like a magic wand. Kylie stopped Jenny from reading a spell aloud and warned her she could have triggered an apocalypse-level event or summon a powerful entity. Ray was keen on ferreting out relevant pages and hoped they would find something about finding Egon. At 5:48 pm, Ray was called up by Kevin downstairs and forwarded a call from Loftur. Loftur told him he wanted to meet with the Ghostbusters in Central Park near Umpire Park at midnight. After they were returned to New York by Aibell, the Ghostbusters ran a standard analysis on Egon and asked what he remembered about his death. It was interrupted by a case in the Bronx. As Ecto-1 departed, Egon smiled and remarked it was good to be back.

In the fall, Janine was in an exceptionally irritated state from being stuck doing inventory. She was paid a visit by her niece, Cait Banner and one of Cait's friends, Zoe Zawadzki. Cait tried to get Janine to bump the family of another of her friends, Evan Torres, up the wait list but failed. Janine cited the principle of triage and the Ghostbusters had to deal with the worst cases first. She left the room to answer a call. Cait and Zoe improvised and stole a P.K.E. Meter and Trap. Cait, Zoe, and Evan were later given a tour of the Firehouse. Peter recruited them to help out with a prank. He had them hid a walkie talkie Radio behind the Paranormal Containment Research Tank. Ray later took them to the second floor and introduced them to Slimer. They asked what it used to be. Egon and Kylie provided some theories then Ray found a passage from Funder's Cults of the Northeast he thought was tied to Slimer's origin. Ray, Egon, and Kylie were amazed when Slimer spoke and proclaimed he was once a king. Egon was irate when Slimer revealed it was given his stash of snack cakes by Ray as part of an experiment. They hurried off to document the revelation. Peter paid off the teenagers for helping out with the prank.

One week after an incident on Coney Island, Ray lectured Cait, Zoe, and Evan on primary spectral classification. After an hour and a half, Ray got to the difference between a Class 3 and a Class 4 but Kylie informed him he was needed for a meeting with Peck downstairs. While Peck spoke with the Ghostbusters about a massive fine imposed by the EPA for getting Coney drenched in Psychomagnotheric Slime, Kylie sneaked the 101 students into the basement and showed them the Interspatial Teleportation Unit. A ghost tried to access the open portal and cross over but Kylie shut off the unit in time. Kylie decided to reveal the secrets of the third floor refrigerator next and touted it as information that could save their lives someday. Janine and Kevin reviewed the Ghostbusters 101 commercial at the front desk. Janine couldn't believe Peter was going through with his idea and became agitated just thinking of the inundation of legalities and stupid phone calls she would have to endure. Janine and Kevin were interrupted by the arrival of Dr. Carla Parker and her son Garrett Parker. To her surprise, Peter arranged for Garrett to be added to Ray's trio of students. While Carla and Janine went over the paperwork, Kevin introduced Garrett to Cait, Evan, and Zoe who were being lectured by Jenny upstairs on detecting Class 4 Semi-Corporeal entities with P.K.E. Meters. Jenny agreed to a break so Cait, Zoe, and Evan could give Garrett a tour of the Firehouse but warned them to show him what not to touch and to stay away from anything that could explode. They headed to the basement and opened a portal with the Interspatial Teleportation Unit. A large yellow ghost reached from the other side and grabbed Garrett. Zoe was able to close the portal and severed two of the ghost's limbs in the process. Janine entered the basement and became very, very angry about what just transpired.

After news broke of twin Statues of Liberty one afternoon, Jillian Holtzmann headed to the Firehouse and found Abby Yates, Patty Tolan, and Erin Gilbert outside. Curious about the other Ghostbusters on TV, they went inside to get started with diagnostic equipment but immediately noticed the interior was nowhere like their Firehouse. Kevin Tanaka peeked out from the office and greeted them. Erin demanded to know what he did with Kevin. Kevin stated he was Kevin. Erin flipped out. Patty intervened. Egon addressed them from the top of the stairs with Beckman. He was excited about getting to name a ghost Kevin Junior. Holtzmann quickly raced up the stairs and asked Egon about his hair-do. The two teams gathered on the second floor. Egon took a reading of Abby and confirmed her dimensional frequency was in a pronounced state of flux. Ray explained they met travelers from other dimensions before and decided it would be better to show than tell. They headed down to the basement and demonstrated the teleportation unit. Ray invited Holtzmann to interact with the open portal. She placed her hand through and her hand reappeared above her arm. Egon explained it verified the frequency fluctuation indicated their respective dimensions were in a state of overlap. Abby was still skeptical and asked for further proof like a control in an experiment. Egon brought up the portal to the dimension of the Ghostbusters who were pursued by Proteus. She quickly stuck her head through and observed that dimension's Peter and Egon discussing missing cheese. Holtzmann noticed the No Ghost logo. Ray and Egon shared their theory about seeding the Multiverse with the idea of Ghostbusters when the team crossed the streams on Gozer's temple years ago. Patty recalled the name "Zuul" and asked if her team was going to end up fighting Gozer someday. Peter circled the conversation back to the overlap problem. As they walked upstairs, Ray requested "samples" from the other team. Holtzmann answered the front desk phone and took up a new case.

The majority of the two teams departed for Ellis Island on Marine Ecto-8. Kylie presented some reference material to Abby on the second floor while Egon carried in some equipment . Abby tried some out and noticed it was saying the P.K.E. was building up in pressure and was close to releasing it. A noticeable tremor rocked the Firehouse. Kevin Beckman notified them that some of the materials from his dimension's Firehouse showed up downstairs. Some time later, Beckman called Ray's phone at about the time the threat on Ellis Island was neutralized. He informed Ray he tagged everything from his dimension's Firehouse so no one would get confused. Janine grabbed the phone and told Ray he was telling everyone who called the same thing. She informed Ray that Egon and Abby were out collecting data while Melanie Ortiz was on her way from the west coast as soon as she could get a flight. Ray told Janine they cleared Ellis Island and asked her to call the Fire Department on the special line as soon as possible. Several buildings were on fire.

A few days later, Peck demanded a comprehensive update from a Ghostbuster. Holtzmann couldn't resist the opportunity to mess with an uptight bureaucrat and pretended she could steal his soul with a kiss because she was from another dimension. Egon, Ray, Kylie, and Erin, Abby were interviewing and scanning Cait, Zoe, Evan, and Garrett upstairs on the second floor. Egon, Ray, and Kylie concluded it was a three part problem. They had to sever the Bronx Spook's connection to the Manhattan Ley Lines, draw it fully into their dimension and trap it, and seal the breach with a controlled explosion. Erin noticed Abby walked off into another room. Abby was feeling sorry for herself with the new knowledge there was a multiverse full of teams of Ghostbusters and she felt a little less unique. Erin cheered her up and Abby got an idea to salvage her team's Containment Unit and use as a means to trap the ghost. They began working on incorporating it into a new vehicle. Holtzmann naturally freaked out upon returning from a case and seeing her invention in pieces. Ray briefed Peter, Winston, Patty, and Holtzmann on what the plan was.

The number of canceled and diverted airplane flights to New York began to increase as the dimensional bleed incident continued. With little choice, Agent Melanie Ortiz drove from Missouri to New York. She arrived at the Firehouse and initially mistook Jillian Holtzmann for a fellow agent based in Boston. Holtzmann filled her in on how Ray's 101 pilot team's unauthorized use of the teleportation unit caused the two dimensions to merge. Kylie finished programming the Ultimate Mobile Trap's horn to sound like Debarge. Melanie turned to Kylie for more information. She confessed it was her fault she showed the cadets the unit. Melanie called up Agent Holtzmann and had her talk to her counterpart. Abby introduced herself while Kylie explained the multi-part plan to trap the Bronx Spook and split their dimensions. Janine was happy to see Melanie and asked her to help deal with the phones.

Ray and Egon attempted to recalibrate the sensor array set-up on the Dimensional Inverter on the second floor. As soon as Ray finished using some needle nose pliers, the Inverter sensed an extra-dimensional incursion and activated its alarm. They were surprised to see Donatello cross over. Donatello quickly explained he and his brothers were attacked by strange entities. The strange entities, the Collectors, crossed over and grabbed Donatello. They recognized Ray and Egon. After shrugging off a Proton Stream, the Collectors warned them not to interfere or they would turn their attention back to them. Peter and Winston were called up for a meeting. Egon revealed the Collectors left behind trace ectoplasm that would yield the dimensional frequency of their limbo dimension. Ray hinted he already had an idea on how to deal with the Collectors. Over a period of roughly three weeks, they formulated a plan and devised new technology to aid them, Remote Portal Access Bands to allow them to open portals in the field and Experimental Mental Communications Devices to temporarily camouflage Donatello's presence. Peter, Ray, and Winston went through the Interspatial Teleportation Unit to the Collectors' Limbo and instructed only Donatello to go through. Egon explained the situation as they went up to the third floor. Egon revealed he needed Donatello's knowledge of transdimensional mechanics to construct a permanent means of containment for the Collectors. To compound things, Egon turned Donatello's attention to a simulation he was running. The others had less than a day before they would be captured.

Donatello admitted he was amazed with how much Egon and Ray modified his original design for the teleportation unit as well as with inventing the access bands. Egon admitted a drawback of the technology was it stirred up P.K.E. and attracted ghosts. He clarified he needed Donatello's unmodified design to recreate the portal technology and combine it with the Traps to directly transport the four Collectors into the Containment Unit. Donatello got an idea on how to prevent the Collectors from escaping before they could trap them. While they worked on the Trap-Gate, Donatello's Communications Device went haywire and he suffered neural confusion with Winston. He briefly gleaned the Collectors breaching dimensions. Janine entered the room with a delivery from Kung Fu Hustle Supply Emporium. Donatello revealed his idea was to build proton-powered ninja arsenal. Egon and Donatello left for the Warehouse to test their prototypes then hurried back to modify the Trap-Gate. Donatello finished soldering the Trap-Gate and completed boosting it five fold. Egon reminded him they had to capture all four Collectors. Donatello reassured him they were ready thanks to the Proton Weapons then probed him about his death again. Egon stated he would have preferred a robot was involved then admitted he would have been preferred to been restored to life by technology than by a god. He decided it was time to contact the others. Donatello checked the access band trackers and realized they were all in the same place. Fearing they were recaptured, they rushed down from the third floor to the basement and used the teleportation unit. Donatello went through with his Proton Weapon.

The Turtles, Peter, Ray, and Winston crossed over back to the Firehouse basement, where Egon and Janine were waiting. Michelangelo hugged Janine and told her about seeing his mother. Donatello cut the reunion short and handed out Proton Weapons then explained the plan. Egon performed calculations and determined the odds were in favor of the Collectors manifesting in Central Park near W 63rd. A short time after the Collectors were trapped, they returned to the Firehouse and said their goodbyes. Ray reassured Raphael the Containment Unit would keep the Collectors imprisoned. Winston reminded Leonardo to try and not put the whole world on his shoulders. Peter gave Michelangelo a copy of "A Beginner's Guide to Psychology." Donatello promised Egon he would send over a detailed set of data on the Metalhead experiment once he figured out where it all was. Janine asked them to say hello to April for her. The Turtles departed for home through the Interspatial Teleportation Unit once again.

Jenny started research on an entity the Ghostbusters encountered in the City Water Tunnel No. 3. She pointed out to Ray that he could have showered at home. Ray contended the Firehouse had better water pressure. Going on the fact the ghost had a head shaped like a pumpkin and an Irish accent, Jenny focused on a ghost that manifested during the festival of Samhain. Once Ray came out of the shower, she presented a page from "A Book of Pagan Rituals" to him that had an old drawing that resembled the ghost. She felt his head looked more like a turnip. Ray consulted "The Old Book of Magic" and learned the ghost wasn't seen in centuries and was believed to have been banished by a druid that learned its real name. Ray remembered the druids didn't have a tradition of writing so the ghost's real name was lost and hoped their modern arsenal was comparable. Jenny warned him to be careful. Ron interrupted them and suggested putting her into the Containment Unit for safekeeping. Jenny was surprised and asked why he was paying them a visit. Ron joked about her going easy with the cold shoulder because it was bringing down the room temperature and it was bad for the skin then pointed out Ray wasn't wearing any pants and only had a towel on. Jenny became angry and red and went through the wall and cabinets. Ray stated she was still sensitive about her condition. He pointed out Ron wasn't due for another week for proton equipment recertification. Ron insisted he had a life and coming a week early was the most convenient for him. Ray reminded him it was a condition of his pardon and he didn't have a say in it. The alarm sounded off. Since Peter and Winston weren't answering, Ron came along as the fourth with Ray, Egon, and Kylie.

As a result of being in direct contact during Connla's dispersal, a latent mental link was forged. In the few days before Connla's reconstitution, Kylie had a precognitive dream while she slept in the Ray's Occult Books office. In the dream, she and the four original Ghostbusters were surrounded by Connla's Army. Connla declared the veil to the other side would open permanently, more armies would come, and night would last forever. She awoke and went to the Firehouse to share details of the dream with the others. Egon noticed strange readings picked up by the Dream Analyzer Helmet but lied to her they were normal to assuage her fears. Kylie admitted she felt physical sensations during the dream. Egon asserted no matter what, they took dreams seriously. Peter contended he never took his seriously. Janine added they all learned that lesson already. Peter brought up the ghost had an Irish accent and hinted at a connection to Kylie like with Janine and the Draugar. Egon doubted it. Kylie revealed her great-grandfather chose her family's surname when he immigrated to America because it had a good ring to it. She realized something and ran off to double check her theory. Janine yelled out to leave the helmet on the front desk. She sighed and reckoned Ray had too much of an influence on her. Peter thought Egon was more to blame. With knowledge of the army coming, Egon went to work preparing for the possibility. He dug out a Remote Portal Access Band from a box. On Friday, at 3 pm, Ron continued complaining about Egon and Ray's wildly accurate calculations while Winston tried to finish maintenance on Ecto-1. He was naturally working Winston's last nerve. Ron wished Connla would hurry up and rematerialize. The alarm sounded. The Ghostbusters, Kylie, and Ron left for Liberty Island.

Ray was excited and a little nervous to finally conduct an experiment aimed at observing the interior of the Containment Unit. He hoped it tapped into a pocket dimension like the unit of their counterparts' in Dimension 68-R, the Real Ghostbusters. Egon turned a valve and insisted they still needed to be very careful. He didn't care to speculate how many days they were without incident. Ray emphasized it was a lot and stipulated as long as there was no direct connection to the Containment Unit when they fired up the dimensional portal, everything would stay perfectly copacetic. The interdimensional transport array was left on since it was running a diagnostic to sync up the monitoring equipment. It was okay as long as no one activated the portal and Containment Unit at the same time. Ray left a note just to be safe then he and Egon left to eat. Peter later tried to deposit the captured Phyllis Hasskamp but unbeknownst to him and the others, Ron and Holtzmann built their own Remote Access Teleportation Unit that piggybacked off the original teleportation unit in the basement and tested it. Before Peter could turn it off, the basement was enveloped in a white flash.

Peter was taken to a hospital a few blocks away. Ron and Holtzmann were reprimanded, for their part in the explosion, by Egon, Ray, and Winston on the third floor. Ron tried to claim he was forced to make matters into his own hands because Ray and Egon were never going to share the dimensional technology and pinned the blame on them. Winston heard enough and grabbed Rob by the collar. Holtzmann intervened and admitted the real reason she partnered with Ron was to use the technology to find more people she could identify with and expand her "family." They went down to the basement. Ray pointed out the improbable timing of the teleportation unit diagnostic, the remotely accessed portal, and Peter depositing a Trap. He only saw a blown capacitor in the Containment Unit but Egon discovered several major entities were missing. Egon realized the structural integrity was compromised but Gareth Dibello was suddenly released. He took control of a Proton Pack and fired at Holtzmann while the others took cover. The teleportation unit activated and several miniature portals were generated. Dibello flew through one with Holtzmann but she got stuck halfway. Egon and Ray pulled Holtzmann back into the basement, with part of Dibello's arm, just in time before the portal closed. Egon looked at the logs and realized all the missing entities used similar portals to go to other dimensions.

Two days later, the Chicago Ghostbusters volunteered to monitor the Containment Unit in case any more ghosts escaped. After Kevin finished updating Peck on the situation, he returned to the Firehouse to help watch the Containment Unit. Peck went to the Firehouse and became irate at the thought of the situation worsening. Kevin corrected his assessment and calmly said it only got more complicated as usual. He suggested calling the Warehouse if he wanted another update. Peck already did and was annoyed a child answered. Kevin stated they were high school seniors. Peck still qualified that as "child." He didn't like the likelihood they were children operating dangerous equipment unsupervised but circled back to his primary objection about not being satisfactorily updated on the imminent threat which he suspected was rapidly descending into hell in a hand basket. Jenny denied it upon arriving in the garage with six Slimers, the Ghostbusters of Dimension 11-W, the Ghostbusters of Dimension 68-M, and the Ghostbusters of Dimension 68-Q. Peck wanted more information and cited the Mayor as an excuse. Jenny pointed out the Containment Unit was already being monitored and the three teams were at their disposal to go out on any calls. Ray 68-M announced, in Japanese, he was ready to blow a lot of things up. Kevin immediately told Peck he didn't understand him. Peck snapped he already knew what that Ray said then asked about the teleportation unit. Jenny brushed him off and went to retrieve notes for Egon Spengler of Dimension 68-E. Peck hurried up the stairs to the second floor and asked for her honest assessment of how bad it was. Jenny remembered they were still getting check-ins at least. Peck still found it hard to accept that transmissions from and travel to other dimensions was happening. Jenny admitted she was surprised no anonymous government agents ever came to take everything away. Peck revealed he made it clear how easily the Ghostbusters' shoddy technology could end all life on Earth without the proper care and maintenance. Slimer suddenly screamed at the other Slimers flying around. They hid behind Jenny. Jenny was touched Peck was protecting the Ghostbusters in his own way. Peck stated he was protecting the country and reiterated he expected to be appraised with regular check-ins. She suggested he go to the Warehouse and coyly leaned over his shoulder to kiss him. Then the four Slimers kissed him at the same time instead. He swore.

Despite the ghosts being recaptured and the ghosts captured in the team's absence, the Containment Unit was still nearing meltdown. Jenny called the Warehouse from the basement and informed Ray of the developments. She asked him if there were any filled Traps laying around. She estimated one more ghost was needed and the unit was about to blow up. With little choice or time, Jenny sacrificed herself and went into the Containment Unit. It stabilized and returned to normal working order. After a day's worth of work, Egon, Ray, Egon 68-R, and Holtzmann of 80-C finished work on the Containment Observation TV. Once the grid was stable and the monitor was ready, it was turned on. It worked and Ray inputted Jenny's P.K.E. signature. Jenny was found but a Mail Fraud Ghost charged her. Ray was aghast but Holtzmann told him to slow down. Jenny punched out the ghost. Holtzmann declared they were locked in there with her. Ray was relieved and hugged everyone at once. Ray vowed to make sure Jenny's promise they would see each other again would come true. Before Holtzmann left, Egon asked for her thoughts on a new application to old research of his. Holtzmann read his strip of paper but it made no sense. In reality, it was Egon's subliminal messaging code. He reworked it to interrupt any memory of the transdimensional technology. Holtzmann was confused why the Chicken Dance was suddenly stuck in her head. Egon didn't think there were any side effects as far as he knew and planned to show it to Ron next. Ray was satisfied and added they should limit their dimensional travel for the time being.

Two days after a highly charged artifact was confiscated from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Ray and Egon hit a dead-end in trying to identify it. There was no mention it in Tobin's Spirit Guide, Spates Catalog, or any of the dozen books they amassed for research. Ray reminded him they were dealing with a time bomb. They couldn't make out the etchings on the tablet either, initially thinking they were Greek. Peter carried in more books that just arrived. He wondered what happened to the interns that did the menial work for them. He tipped Egon's water bottle by mistake. The water oddly flowed in a circle around the tablet. An Atlantean Priest Ghost manifested and spoke in an unknown language. Ray guessed it was Italian. Egon had no idea. The ghost suddenly possessed Egon and asked what happened with the cataclysm of Atlas' Land. Peter deferred to Ray. The ghost decided to see for himself and flew through the window into the city. Peter was undaunted. Ray went on his knees and looked a book. Peter thought the more urgent concern was to track the ghost. Ray told him that would be easy and he was processing what the ghost said. He was referring to Atlantis. Peter, Ray, and Winston departed in Ecto-1. Winston was surprised Atlantis came up again and informed Peter it was one of the interview questions when he applied for the job. Peter was amused and declared he was a nuts like them.

Janine was not pleased Peter pulled a fire alarm at Penn Station to clear out civilians and reminded him that was the kind of stuff she had to smooth over with the city. Egon returned downstairs from taking a shower. Peter reminded her she took the PCOC liaison job because she wanted the extra responsibility. Janine corrected him and stated she wanted the extra money because she wasn't paid what she was worth. Janine shifted back to the topic and asked if the ghost was a threat because she had PCOC reports to file. Peter told her to tell Peck he knew a place when he could file the reports. Egon interrupted them and explained he and Ray believed the ghost intended to summon a primordial being to both attack and destroy Manhattan. Janine was naturally concerned. Egon explained summoning a god wasn't as simple as flipping a switch and they had time on their side. He also already deduced it was attempting the summoning in Battery Park at dawn.

Janine was not pleased to have a giant alien robot standing inside the Firehouse. It was not because he was an alien. She was concerned about him putting holes in the sheet rock because the contractors always ripped them a new one every time they needed repairs. Ectronymous Diamatron claimed he would never damage anything. His left arm accidentally bent a beam. Janine made herself a cup of tea and sarcastically congratulated him. Ectronymous introduced himself. She told him to call her Janine and couldn't believe that was his name. She refused to call him that over and over. Ectronymous couldn't believe it since it was just eight syllables. Peter bet he didn't know anyone with a full name longer than five. Ectotron was at a loss. Peter suggested a change. Janine remembered Robo-Buster was taken and thought of Ectobot. She remembered "Tron" and came up with Ectotron. Ectronymous conceded he could live with that. Janine told him to fix the support beam. He took a knee and asked Ray if she was how all of humanity was: open-minded and unfazed by those who are different. Ray told him Janine was a special case. Starscream phased through the doors and saw differently. He thought humans were all small, soft, and stuck in one shape. Janine was alarmed and reached for the Proton Grenade in her drawer. Winston had her stand down. Starscream was insulted and headed upstairs. Peter elected to keep an eye on him, to Winston's surprise. Peter claimed it was not a habit and he could quit anytime.

Slimer ate some chicken in the Paranormal Containment Research Tank. Starscream modified his size and looked around for technology he could make use of. Starscream was disgusted and called Slimer a bag of human excrement. He believed it was merciful to blast it out of its misery. Starscream's attack deflected off the ionized glass. Peter informed him the glass was impervious to ghosts. Starscream swore he wasn't doing anything. Peter asked him what he was really after. Starscream claimed he just wanted a physical body. Peter told him he didn't believe him. Starscream pointed out how unwise it was to confront him alone without any weapons. Peter countered he was just a ghost. Starscream advised him not to taunt. Peter quipped he wasn't and activated the Wall-Trap with a tap. Starscream screamed as it pulled him in. Peter went downstairs and told Winston he put Starscream in a Trap. Winston asked him why he did that. Peter replied he thought he was the first psychologist who could claim to specialize in analyzing alien robot ghosts. Egon stated he was not an alien. Peter thanked him but pointed out Starscream was sneaky and believed putting him in a Trap until Ectotron contacted his ship was for the better. Egon and Ray finished fixing Ectotron's damaged communicator. Ectotron asked them not to mention to Optimus Prime it was just a loose connection. He successfully contacted The Ark and briefed Optimus about the current situation. Janine answered a call and learned Mr. Colchamiro had another supernatural infestation. Janine was happy to do business with him again but suggesting getting the property cleansed. Ectotron wondered why they were all staring at him. Peter pointed out he was their ride. Ectotron cited Optimus' impending arrival but Peter promised they would be back in no time. He changed into his Ecto-1 vehicle form and took the Ghostbusters to Brooklyn. Peter told him to hit the siren because they liked it. Ectotron sighed and complied.

After an hour long drive from Westchester County, Optimus Prime arrived at the Firehouse but Ectotron was not around. Optimus elected to reverse into the alley next to the Firehouse and enjoy a short rest cycle while he waited. A pair of women saw Optimus, still in vehicle mode, and thought it was fate. They got out their spray cans and tagged him. The Ghostbusters and Ectotron returned some time later. Ectotron was eager to contact Optimus again to see if left The Ark yet. Optimus stepped into the Firehouse. Peter noticed the graffiti all over him and mused when in Rome. Ectotron quieted him and reported they had experienced two separate sentient electrical disturbances in addition to Starscream. Optimus wanted to hear all about it but emphasized Starscream first. Peter went upstairs to get him. Introductions were made. Janine asked Optimus if he needed a towel or some turpentine. Optimus declined but asked her what the phrase "When in Rome" meant. Janine informed him it meant to blend in like the locals. Optimus took it under advisement. Peter returned with news that Starscream was gone.

Dimension 50-S[]

The Sanctum of Slime Ghostbusters were gone over a week while they were aiding the Ghostbusters of the prime dimension with recapturing entities that escaped their Containment Unit. Upon returning to their home dimension, they requested time off. Conversing at the front desk, Peter was aghast. Alan explained they just got through chasing ghosts in other dimensions, fighting Tiamat in the Collectors' Limbo, and saving the multiverse. Gabriel felt they deserved a day off. Peter wasn't impressed and reminded them his team also saved the multiverse before. Ray added they did so at least a dozen times. Peter recalled they also got paid for it each time. Janine interceded and announced there was a call about a haunted house that appeared out of nowhere in Bayside, Queens. She revealed there was also video online. Peter assigned the case to the SOS team. Alan insisted they just got back and were exhausted. Peter told him they were young and didn't need sleep. Alan wanted to at least change flight suits for a clean one. Egon was intrigued by the readings coming off the ectoplasmic residue on his. Alan informed him it was from a Moose Ghost that got blown up. Egon wanted to study it before the suit was further contaminated but Peter wasn't having any of it.

After the SOS team returned from Bayside, Egon scanned Alan's suit with the Giga Meter. He was surprised the readings weren't as dormant as he expected. Egon was buzzed on the intercomm system by the others and informed that the Trap they used to capture Wat was empty. Egon asked if they had any issues with the Containment Unit's secure access system. Alan elected himself and the team to figure it out while he studied his suit. The SOS team left for the New York City Public Library. An hour later, Alan realized Wat avoided capture and stowed away on his flight suit so he could infiltrate the Firehouse. Wat partially manifested within the suit and immobilized Egon. Before he could use Egon to open the Containment Unit and form his army, the SOS team arrived. Since it was a code red situation, Geoff decided to retreat to Philadelphia and departed in Ecto-4WD. Gabriel checked his P.K.E. Meter and confirmed there was an active presence inside. Alan addressed Wat. He refused to give up. They opened fire but he manifested in his true form. The SOS team and Egon quickly ran out of the Firehouse. Wat burst through the firehall and chased after them. They tapped into the local power grid and trapped Wat, but triggered a black out.

Trivia[]

Ghostbusters (1984) Trivia[]

  • In the August 5, 1983 first draft, September 30, 1983 third draft, and October 7, 1983 shooting script, the Real Estate Woman noted the property was 10,000 square feet but Egon corrected her and stated it was 9,642.55 square feet.[13]
    • At around the 16:55 mark of the Preview Cut, included first in the 2022 Ghostbusters Ultimate Edition, this scene is present. The agent mentions there is another substantial work area in the basement before talking about office space, sleeping quarters and showers on the next floor. The agent states the property is 10,000 square feet total. Egon clarifies it is 9,655.44 square feet. She asks Peter if Egon is his accountant. He jokes Egon is his dad. Peter's comment about it being a little pricey follows.
  • The Firehouse was two firehouses in reality. One was an old firehouse in use in New York and a decommissioned firehouse in Los Angeles used as an artist's studio. Exterior shots were done at the New York firehouse and interior shots were all done in the Los Angeles firehouse.[14][15][16]
  • Michael Gross found the New York firehouse in his preliminary trip to the city. The firehouse was around the corner from where he was staying. After finishing location scouting, the firehouse was still chosen to be the location.[17]
  • Production designer John DeCuir made a foam core mockup of the Firehouse to establish a feel for the set before construction and renovation of the shooting location and for Ivan Reitman to determine blocking action and camera angles.[18]
  • The Firehouse was used, essentially as found, in the sequence where Egon, Ray, and Peter look around the hall. Once the initial scenes were shot, John DeCuir and his staff moved in and made the necessary modifications for later sequences.[19]
  • During shoots at the New York firehouse, the production crew ran into the crew of "Hill Street Blues", a police drama television series, a lot.[20]
  • Both the Los Angeles and New York Firehouses were built in the same year, 1912.[21][22]
  • Dan Aykroyd really wanted to use the fire pole. It wasn't just a line for Ray.[23]
  • The "We Got One!" scene was filmed in the Los Angeles Firehouse.[24]
  • The three arcades on the second floor are Missile Command, Star Castle, and Star Gazer.
  • At around the 46:02 mark of the Preview Cut, there is a confused blonde in the sleeping quarters after the guys leave on a call.
  • While the explosion of ghosts out of the Firehouse was an optical effect, the smoke and debris was a practical effect.[25] Three cameras were used for the shot. This led to a lot of miscommunication, premature detonation smoke bomb detonations and cast members running out the firehouse.[26]
  • An expanded version of the street near the Firehouse was rendered in matte painting form by Matthew Yurichich. This included the Stay Puft Marshmallows billboard.[27]
  • The part where the Firehouse's roof ruptured was actually a miniature Firehouse shot at Entertainment Effects Group.[28]
  • When Ecto-1 arrives after the grid is shut down, the civilians stand on the other side of Varick Street, across from Hook & Ladder Company #8, in the area in front of 18 North Moore Street.

    • On page 49, Janine mentions the weekly special is $199.95, which includes trapping, removal, and a 1 year ghost-free guarantee. She talks to Peter while he walks to the basement with a smoking Trap. He notes she left a great office temp job and informs her they only have unisex restrooms then notes they have to go to the World Trade Center before the Murray Hill case. Janine sighs and hits the alarm button.
    • On page 50, Louis slides down a pole after the guys. He tells them because he refiled as a New York Corporation, he needs their Social Security numbers for their W-2 forms.
    • On page 64-66, Louis pretends to be a Ghostbuster upstairs while Janine prepares to close up for the day. Janine surprises him and he almost blasts her. He notes he celebrates New Years on March 1st to avoid the crowds and big rush. • On page 51 to 52, Peter tells them out his Ghostbusters Gift Boutique idea-tee-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, visors, beach towels, mugs, calendars, stationary, balloons, stickers, Frisbees, paperweights, souvenirs, tote bags, party supplies, motor oil, toys, video games, then thinks of breakfast cereal. He then thinks of getting cheap junk from Taiwan or Korea and slapping the logo on it. Egon interjects that their primary concern should be the continued integrity of the biosphere. Peter claims that's what he said. Ray states they don't have time for it and votes they stick to the old coveralls. Peter relents but asks them to still think about the boutique.
    • On page 65, Peter and Winston go into the living quarters and are exhausted. Ray tells Peter and Winston they have something to show. Peter asks if it's that thing he can do with his nostrils then if they're going to eat the slime.
      • In the February 27, 1989 Draft, this is moved up to page 58 and is all one scene.
      • In the movie, this scene takes place before the museum visit and it opens with everyone gathered at the table already. Peter asks if they need a spoon.

      • In the movie, this scene comes right after Ray yells at the slime rather than after the museum visit.
    • In the February draft, on page 81, the toaster is animated with slime and "Higher and Higher" and Peter wants to sell it. Egon notes they are investigating practical applications and thinks it could be a useful tool against certain types of manifestations. Ray reveals they have a prototype for a pressure-forced, neutronically metered, fully portable delivery system and sums it up as a "slime-blower." Peter sarcastically asks him to keep it under 150 pounds. Peter then pranks them about the toaster bit him.
    • On page 70, Peter presents the Joe Namath shirt then Peter calls up the Firehouse and talks on the phone without Ray's lines being revealed.
      • In the movie, Peter calls up the Firehouse and the conversation from Ray's side is shown. After the call, Peter presents the Namath shirt.

The economy was good. Reagan years. People believed in us. Then things got slow, hauntings got thin. Venkman thought we did our job too well. Uh, we could barely keep up our mortgage. Some actor bought up most of Tribeca, and we lost the firehouse. It's a Starbucks now."

  14. Shay, Don (November 1985). Making Ghostbusters, p. 38 annotation. New York Zoetrope, New York NY USA, ISBN 0918432685. Paragraph reads: "The firehouse which was to become the Ghostbusters' headquarters was, in reality, two separate buildings -- 3000 miles apart. All of the exterior shots were filmed at an old firehouse in New York, which is still in use, while the interiors were shot in a decommissioned firehouse in Los Angeles, presently employed as an artist's studio. The two buildings were remarkably similar, both in appearance and layout."
  15. Shay, Don (November 1985). Making Ghostbusters, p. 38 annotation. New York Zoetrope, New York NY USA, ISBN 0918432685. Joe Medjuck says: "The firehouse in Los Angeles is a huge place -- three stories high. And all of the scenes that were supposed to take place in the firehouse were actually filmed in the firehouse. None of that was done at the studio. When the script says 'basement of the firehouse,' we are actually in the basement of that firehouse. Though John DeCuir added lots of things to dress the place, most of the essential elements were already there."
  16. Shay, Don (November 1985). Making Ghostbusters, p. 39. New York Zoetrope, New York NY USA, ISBN 0918432685. Paragraph reads: "Though firehall interiors were shot in Los Angeles, corresponding exteriors employed a similarly configured building in New York."

Michael Gross says: "I made a preliminary trip to New York; and while I was there, I took some photos of that particular firehouse because, coincidentally, it happened to be right around the corner from where I was staying. I thought at the time, 'Now, that's the kind of firehouse we're looking for. But I figured there were probably a dozen firehouses like that in New York and when we did out location scouting, we'd look at them all. Curiously, that one turned out to be the perfect one."
  18. Shay, Don (November 1985). Making Ghostbusters, p. 39. New York Zoetrope, New York NY USA, ISBN 0918432685. Paragraph reads: "Production designer John DeCuir examines a foam core mockup of the firehall -- an existing structure to which he would be adding the enclosed office area at the rear as well as other modifications and refinements. Such mockups were invariably useful in establishing a three-dimensional feel for the sets -- before costly construction or renovation was initiated -- and often proved useful to Ivan Reitman for blocking action and determining camera angles."

  25. Shay, Don (November 1985). Making Ghostbusters, p. 141 annotation. New York Zoetrope, New York NY USA, ISBN 0918432685. 26. Shay, Don (November 1985). Making Ghostbusters, p. 141 annotation. New York Zoetrope, New York NY USA, ISBN 0918432685. Joe Medjuck says: "We were shooting outside the firehouse in New York. And because of the special effects and the fact that we were using three cameras, it took a long time between takes to set up. When everything was ready to go, Ivan would signal for cameras to roll and then wait for confirmation from each before yelling 'Action!' -- which the people inside the firehouse could barely hear. Richard Edlund and his crew were up on the roof of a building across the street; and on one take, when Ivan asked if cameras were up to speed, Richard said, 'No, we're not ready.' So Ivan stepped into the middle of the street and yelled, 'Hold it!' But everyone on the inside somehow thought he'd said 'Action!' The smoke bombs went off, the doors burst open, the cast came charging out into the street -- and there's Ivan standing right in their midst. Everyone was horrified. It was like the worst filmmaking nightmare come true. But Ivan just burst out laughing."
