Plot[]

Slimer pulled up near the museum and Louis stepped off the city bus. He waved his thanks to Slimer who was behind the wheel. Slimer followed him off the bus. Slimer rushed intently up to Louis and patted him on the shoulder. Louis asked him what he was doing. Slimer wanted to go with Louis really badly but Louis told him he can't because it was just for the Ghostbusters. Slimer became sad and Louis tried to cheer him up. He guessed Slimer was a great bowler based on his arms. Louis suggested he go off and celebrate since it was New Years Eve. It worked but Slimer hugged Louis and gave him a big kiss then flew off. Louis remarked Slimer really stunk but recalled he had friends that stunk so it was not so bad.

Trivia[]

  • On page 128 of the November 27, 1988 and February 27, 1989 drafts, it is suggested the scene took place right after the defeat of Vigo when the new painting of the four Ghostbusters and baby Oscar appears. Slimer drops off Louis. Louis wants to hang out on Monday for dinner and bowling.[1]
  • While this scene was completely deleted in the film, in the third part of "NOW Comics The Real Ghostbusters starring in Ghostbusters II", a scene where Slimer drops off can be seen.
  • This scene was deleted because it wasn't resonating with test audiences.[2]
  • The side of the bus advertises Centrum.
  • Once again Louis notes that Slimer stinks.
  • Louis remarks a lot of his friends stink.[3]

Line reads: "The Ghostbusters are greeted by wild cheering and applause as they come out the main entrance with Dana and the baby. Everybody starts singing "Auld Lang Syne." Louis picks his way through the celebrating crowd and finds the Ghostbusters."

Michael Gross says: "What we found during editing was that Slimer was not working very well. Whenever he was in there, it seemed like he was really an intrusion. At first we thought the answer was to add more of him, so we had an ongoing confrontation between Louis and Slimer in which Louis was constantly trying to catch him. We thought it would be funny and at screenings we expected the audience to cheer and laugh when they saw him again. But nothing. No reaction. The audience was looking at it as a fresh movie. There were a lot of kids who loved to see him, so we knew we could not abandon him completely, but he never really worked with the audience the way we expected. Ultimately, we decided less was better, and in the final film we limited him to two very quick shots."
