The Ghostbusters Mug and Balloon is a set of promotional items offered by the Ghostbusters in 1989 on a limited basis. It was also a Cursed Artifact found in the Central Park Cemetery level of Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Realistic Versions).
Canonicity[]
The Ghostbusters Mug and Balloon in the Primary Canon is developed from Ghostbusters II. The Ghostbusters Mug and Balloon appears in Ghostbusters: The Video Game Realistic Versions, deemed a secondary canon, developed from Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II which pre-date the game, Ghostbusters: Afterlife conflicts with the game. The Ghostbusters Mug and Balloon appears in the IDW Comic Series, a Secondary Canon, which follows Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II, also includes some elements from Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Realistic Versions) and Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Stylized Versions); as well as being canon to Tobin's Spirit Guide (Insight Editions). Ghostbusters: Funko Universe, deemed a Tertiary Canon, follows Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II.

The Ghostbusters offered this souvenir mug and balloon as a service premium during the "comeback" phase of their career in late 1989. Egon Spengler "mentioned" and revealed them in the new commercial.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game[]
During the Thanksgiving 1991 weekend, the Rookie discovered a pair in Central Park when it was transformed into the Central Park's Cult Cemetery.
IDW Comics[]
The remaining inventory of mugs were folded over into a new loyalty program around the time of the confrontation with Loftur Þorsteinsson. A mug and balloon was occasionally seen on Janine Melnitz's desk in the Firehouse.

History[]
In c. 1989 The Ghostbusters offered this souvenir mug and balloon as a service premium during the 'comeback' phase of their career. It's assumed that one of the escapee ghosts from the containment unit snatched these and carried them to the Central Park Cemetery; even ghosts like to pick up a souvenir occasionally.

In the Field: Just before entering the mausoleum that magically opens up to release the Flying Skulls, stop to examine the area behind the small crypt on their left.
At the Firehouse: Located on Janine's desk, on the side closest to the Vigo painting.

- After Egon presents the Ghostbusters hot beverage thermal mug and free balloons for the kids, a caption flashed on screen reading, "LIMIT ONE PER FAMILY."
