The Mass Makers[1] are an experimental device aimed at making ghosts solid.[2][3]
History[]
Egon Spengler invented the experimental Mass Makers, in glove form for the sole purpose of making ghosts corporeal. Once the gloves are activated, the dishes expand and form around the gloves. The wearer then must add enough kinetic energy, i.e. by punching them into each other, and generate an electrical field. Then once the ghost touches this field, it will solidify.[4]
During the battle with the Ghostmakers, Kylie Griffin donned the Mass Makers and solidified the essences of Roland, Egon, Janine, Eduardo, Garrett, and Slimer.
Notes[]
It is unspecified why Egon invented the Mass Makers. However, given the history of the Ghostbusters, Egon wanted to anticipate any overcrowding issues in the Containment Unit. By solidifying a ghost, the Ghostbusters could just disperse it rather than trap it.
The Mass Makers appeared to be a glove version of an earlier invention of Egon's, the Ethereal Solidifier which turned wispy ghosts more real so they're easier to catch.
Trivia[]
- The Mass Makers were going to appear in "Glutton for Punishment" at one point but were cut out.[5][6]
