The MJN Studio Movie Star Ghosts are Clark Tracy, Douglas Flynn, and Hopalong Rogers[2], a trio of the ghosts of MJN Studio's old movie stars who starred as heroes in their respective films.[3]

History[]

When the Ghostbusters were about to be executed by Cadrin, Kathryn, and Joe; Ray Stantz grabbed Egon Spengler's P.K.E. Meter and reversed the polarity to send a S.O.S. signal to ghosts.[4] Three ghosts appeared as a cowboy, a pirate, and a military commando. The pirate freed everyone from their bonds while the others stripped the ghosts of the Proton Packs. Egon Spengler considered trapping these ghosts, too, but Peter Venkman interjected. The Ghostbusters watched as the ghosts rode off into the sunset and disappeared.

Trivia[]

  • Although they are not specifically identified, earlier in the episode, Ray Stantz mentioned two famous actors associated with MJN Studios: Douglas Flynn (who starred in "Pirate of Zinda") and Clark Tracy (who starred in "Gangsters on Broadway").[5][6] It is possible two of the ghosts were Flynn and Tracy.
  • The ghosts bear a strong resemblance to Hollywood actors Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, and John Wayne.
  • Hopalong Rogers is named after fictional cowboy hero Hopalong Cassidy and an actor Jimmy Rogers who played one of the juvenile leads.
  • On page 13 of Ghostbusters Volume 2 Issue #3, Douglas Flynn and "Pirate of Zinda" has a non-canon reference on the Bijou Theatre marquee.
  • On page 8 of 35th Anniversary: Ghostbusters, the Celebrity Magazine ad promotes Clark Tracy in "Gangsters on Broadway."
