The Radio is the main way of communication among the Ghostbusters when they are separated or split up. Janine Melnitz also used them to communicate with the team from the Firehouse.[1] It was seen being used when Peter Venkman and Egon Spengler split off from Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore, during the Sleeping ghost's rampage through Studio 9 in Burbank, to search for their missing Proton Packs. The Extreme Ghostbusters continued to use handheld radios, too.
