The Spirit Slaves were specters from the ghost world used by Edward Kirilian to steal several objects needed to complete a machine that could open a portal to the ghost world.

History[]

When Kirilian worked together with Egon Spengler at the New York State University, he believed that he could control spirits and make them his slaves.[1] After losing his job at a university, Kirilian perfected his Collars of Obedience and enslaved a few dozen ghosts.[2]

While most of the Spirit Slaves were ordered to construct a gateway machine to the Netherworld, three were tasked with stealing The LB-7 laser prototype from Bright Wave High Tech Industries, a Toltec Skull from a paranormal exhibit in New York City, and a second Toltec Skull from private collector Wilhelm Rykhart. Realizing that Egon and the Extreme Ghostbusters would discover his plans, he staged an attack at his home in New Jersey. When the Ghostbusters arrived, Kirilian pretended to be attacked by ghosts and killed in an explosion to throw off any suspicion of his part in the thefts.[3][4]

Despite Kirilian's supposed death, the Ghostbusters continued to investigate and tracked some strong emanations from a Civil Defense tunnel underneath an abandoned junior high school where Kirilian was based. While several Spirit Slaves battled the Extreme Ghostbusters, those involved with the thefts kidnaped and brought Egon to their master. Once the portal the Netherworld was opened and Egon sabotaged the gateway machine, the Spirit Slaves began to go through, almost in relief. The supposed leader of the slaves grabbed Kirilian and took him through the portal.

Ghosts[]

Many of the ghosts were recolors of Minions of Surt while some others are identical to the four ghosts that were in the gateway during the climax of the episode.
