History[]

Primary Canon History[]

Before Ghostbusters (1984)[]

Some time during Ray Stantz's youth, he roasted Stay Puft Marshmallows at Camp Waconda and it remained his most fondest childhood memory.

Ghostbusters (1984)[]

In 1984, when Dana Barrett first encountered Zuul, her abandoned groceries included a bag of the marshmallows and some time later, a sign advertising them was seen on the side of a building near the Firehouse when the Storage facility exploded.

Before Ghostbusters: Afterlife[]

At some point in time, a Stay Puft Marshmallows mural was painted on the side of a building in Summerville next to the Summerville County Sheriff's Department.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife[]

In June of 2021, the night after releasing Vinz Clortho by accident, Gary Grooberson went at the local Walmart and got a Baskin-Robbins Jamoca ice cream and a bottle of blue velvet frosting. He walked past the shelves stocked with Stay Puft Marshmallows. Unbeknownst to him, a manifestation of Gozer took place. One of the 10 ounce bags started moving on the shelf like something was in it. Gary doubled back and stared at the bag. To his shock, a Mini-Puft tore a hole and came out of the bag. It yawned and rubbed its eyes. It saw Gary, smiled, and stepped forward but it fell off the bag and landed on its face. It bit Grooberson's finger then tons more Mini-Pufts emerged from the other bags. About two days later, Trevor Spengler drove Phoebe Spengler and Podcast in Ecto-1 to the Shandor Mining Company. He drove past the Stay Puft Marshmallows mural on the side of the building, now a liquor store.

Secondary Canon History[]

IDW Comics[]

After the Ghost of Christmas Past transports the Ghostbusters and Woodrow Wainwright Fraser III to Camp Waconda, they witness a young Ray with his parents roasting Stay Puft Marshmallows. Ray also appears to keep a bag on his nightstand in the Firehouse sleeping quarters. Some marshmallows are present in the apartment where Janine Melnitz's team's first bust took place. Dana also still keeps a bag in her kitchen.

Tertiarary Canon History[]

88MPH Comics[]

In 1994, before a doomed graduate college experiment, Ray consumed Stay Puft Marshmallows with Michael Draverhaven outside the John F. Kennedy International Airport.

IDW Comics[]

Ghostusters: Deviations[]

In an alternate timeline in 1984, the Ghostbusters chose not to cross the streams. 31 days later, they agreed to help Gozer get back to its home dimension and thus lose its new Destructor Form. After they recruited Tempore Ruga to send Gozer back in time, the timeline corrected itself. The Ghostbusters returned to the Firehouse with Dana and Louis. Ray didn't know why but he admitted to having a powerful craving for Stay Puft Marshmallows. He asked if anyone wanted to roast some. Peter agreed to it.

We discarded that idea, though, as being a bit of overkill."
  4. Prop Store "Lot #299 - GHOSTBUSTERS (1984) - Stay-Puft Marshmallow Bag" retrieved 10/17/19 Description reads: "A Stay-Puft Marshmallow bag from Ivan Reitman's supernatural comedy Ghostbusters. Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) brought home a bag of Stay-Puft Marshmallows and set them on her kitchen counter shortly before her first encounter with Zuul the Gatekeeper of Gozer. This plastic bag features a white Stay-Puft label adhered over the bag's real front label. The label depicts a cartoon rendering of the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man and the slogan "STAYS PUFT EVEN WHEN TOASTED", which did not appear on the bag seen on screen, but did appear on a Stay-Puft billboard later in the film. The expiration date printed on the marshmallow bag is "February 12, 1984". The bag exhibits signs of wear and aging, including small tears and crinkling to the plastic, fading and glue residue to the front labels, and discolouration and stiffening to the actual marshmallows. Dimensions: 30.5 cm x 16.75 cm x 5.25 cm (12" x 6 1/2" x 2")."

  6. IGN YouTube "Ghostbusters: Afterlife - Exclusive Trailer Breakdown with Director Jason Reitman" 09:49-9:59 7/26/2021 Jason Reitman says: "This shot is also the tail end of a recreation of a shot from '84 of Ecto-1 flying out of the Firehouse. You know, there's that great 180 it does that they had to undercrank you know in a Chaplan-esque way back in '84 and we wanted to get the car going so fast that it cooked on its own."
  7. Tested YouTube "Adam Savage Visits Ghostbusters: Afterlife's Art Department!" 1:42-1:52 2/1/2022 Marie Massolin says: "Yes, it's about 20 feet so it's quite large. We did something fun where we actually color match the brick. We got a pantone for it and then and then this whole thing's actually printed. So we printed it on vinyl and then it's called a concrete vinyl and they bring heat guns and it sticks to every groove and nick and cranny of the brick so it looks like it's been painted on there but we actually just rolled it on one day, put some heat guns to it, and brick painting."

Stay Puft Marshmallows are one of the many high quality products we make here at Comm Core. Frankly, we're outraged. You may have fooled the city with your little puppet show but not us! This company has worked over 75 years to cultivate the family friendly image of Mr. Stay Puft. He was modeled after somebody's uncle for crying out loud! And it wasn't all so you could go to war with him in downtown Manhattan! This is defamation of character on the grandest scale! You'll be hearing from us Ghostbusters! Have a sunny, funny Comm Core Corp day."
