To defeat the Ecto-Clones once and for all, the Ghostbusters, past and present, worked all night on a new Fusion Blast Adapter. The use of the adapters to induce an ionic fusion had its dangers, namely a releasing enough energy to create a crater the size of Death Valley. The Ghostbusters successfully fused the eight Ecto-Clones and trapped it. They soon used the adapters against S.I.D.N.E.E., but were ineffective.
The Adapters looked like a special nozzle attachment that fits onto the tip of the Particle Thrower.
