The Ghost Vacuum (also known as Portable Containment Unit)[1] is a ghostbusting device invented by Dr. Egon Spengler. It is much like a weapon Egon made during years ago called a SCEP-TECH, and it is basically a Proton Pack and Ghost Trap in one.

History[]

In 1997, Janine Melnitz used the Ghost Vacuum, in a battle with the Donkey ghost. It was noted by Egon to be a prototype and therefore wasn't ready for use. [2] Due to the sheer weight of the Vacuum, only Janine could carry it with ease after constantly exercising by carrying heavy equipment up and down the three flights of stairs in the Firehouse. Janine failed to contain the Donkey ghost but granted the other Ghostbusters enough of a reprieve to capture the other freed entity, the Gas ghost. Janine tossed it aside and went to eat a Hot Fudge Sundae.

Trivia[]

  • The Ghost Vacuum appears to be much heavier than other weapons for capture. Janine struggled to drag the Ghost Vacuum up three flights of stairs to Egon's laboratory.
  • According to Production Supervisor Shannon Muir, early in the script process, there was consideration that new equipment would be adopted and replace Proton Packs. It is also part of the Deluxe Human Series of Extreme Ghostbusters toys that the Roland Jackson action figure is marketed with (though it is colored blue rather than green).[3]
  • On page two of Ghostbusters Volume 2 Issue #3, the Ghost Vacuuma makes a non-canon cameo in front of the side cabinet.

Actually, I just noticed that he's leaning on it in the group shot of the opening credits!"
