Plot[]

A motorist honked their car horn in traffic outside the of the Manhattan Museum of Art. In the Restoration room, a painting of Vigo the Carpathian was being wheeled in. Janosz Poha supervised the employees and instructed them to put the painting under the arch. Janosz's attention shifted over to the work of an art restorer at her station. He told her everything she was doing was bad and he wanted her to know it. Janosz passed by another restorer, an older man, who just stared blankly at him. He told the older man to be careful. He lamented no one listened to him. Janosz went to Dana Barrett's station and perked up. He asked how she was doing and how the Bonnington was coming along. She felt it was coming along fine and thought the mixture he gave her was working really well. Janosz joked he made pretty good cocktails then complimented her work. She thanked him. He mused it would not be long before she could assist him in more important restorations. It was 12:40 on the clock on the wall. Janosz pulled some white fuzz of her hair. She turned to him. He showed her it was just a white thing. Dana thanked him for the offer, referring to him as "Dr. Poha" but he cut her off, insisting on just "Janosz." Dana continued, she enjoyed working at the museum but now that her baby was a little older, she was going to try to go back to the orchestra. Dana cleaned her brush.

Janosz was sorry to hear that she would be quitting and offered to take her out for brunch. Dana cited an appointment she had to go to. Dana hastily put her tools away and put her coat on. Janosz noted that whenever he asked her, "Well, can you do something?", she said, "No, I can't do something." He asked if he had bad breath or something. Dana assured him he did not. She exhaled quietly and walked away. Janosz gave her a rain check. He stood next to the Vigo painting and talked to himself, believing she liked him. Vigo's head partially bulged out of the painting unnoticed.

Trivia[]

  • In the September 29, 1988 draft:
    • On page 8, Jason Locke, the precursor to Janosz Poha, stares at Lane Walker, the new romantic lead, as he works on the Vigo painting in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
      • In the movie, Jason Locke is Janosz Poha and he is walking the floor commenting on others' work as the Vigo painting is moved into the room at the Manhattan Museum of Art. He walks over to Dana Barrett last.
    • On page 9, Lane works on restoring a Turner, a 19th century landscape painting and promises to finish it that day. Jason assures her it's okay because it's a 200 year old painting and a few more hours won't matter. He tries to ask her out for lunch. She turns him down and he asks if he has bad breath. Lane mentions she has a routine doctor's appointment for her son Mikey.
      • In the movie, Dana works on a Bonington. Janosz jokes about his paint mixture as making a pretty good cocktail. Vigo turns after Dana leaves and Janosz thinks she likes him.
    • On page 10, it is revealed Lane was sort of lying and she finds Egon Spengler lecturing at the Einstein Institute for Advanced Theoretical Research.
  • In the November 27, 1988 and February 27, 1989 drafts:
    • On page 12, Janosz stares longingly at Dana as he works on the Vigo painting.
    • On page 13, Dana works on restoring a Turner, a 19th century landscape painting. Dana apologizes for being late and promises to have the Turner done by the end of the day. Janosz assures her it's okay because it's a 150 year old painting. She forces a polite laugh then admits she's planning on returning to the orchestra so he tries to ask her out for lunch. The Vigo turns its head when Dana mentions her baby.
    • On page 14, after Dana leaves, Janosz switches on an English language tape and starts practicing phrases he thinks are working.
    • On page 15, the appointment Dana left for turns out to be her meeting with Egon at the Institute for Advanced Theoretical Research.
      • In the movie, the two scenes are flipped and Dana sees Egon before her first scene in the museum.
  • The exterior used for the Manhattan Museum of Art is the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House at 1 Bowling Green in New York City.
  • The exterior banners advertise an exhibit of art by Edgar Degas. Degas was a 19th century French artist credited with having a part in founding Impressionism but preferred to be called a Realist.
  • The restoration room scenes were filmed on a sound stage at The Burbank Studios in Los Angeles.
  • Vigo was inspired by the Carpathian mythology, the Dracu, and Vlad the Impaler.[1]
  • Dana worked on cleaning a Bonington. Richard Parkes Bonington was a early 19th century English Romantic landscape painter.
  • Dana alludes to Oscar and her previous occupation which came up in the first movie in Chapter 14: Welcome Aboard.
  • In Ghostbusters Volume 2 #14:
    • On Page 6, Janine asks Dana if she's back with the New York Philaharmonic, a minor plot bit from Ghostbusters II.

Dan Aykroyd says: "Vigo came out of the idea of the Carpathians, the Dracu, Vlad the Impaler-that part of the world where there was a lot of demonology and possession and magic. We drew on Sumerian mythology for the first movie, and we drew on Carpathian mythology for the second movie. Vigo was an invention of Harold and myself, almost like a Dracula figure."
