John's fiancee intended to sell her deceased Uncle Horace's house, but Uncle Horace came back as a ghost and was looking for something. He suggested to Olivia that they call the Ghostbusters, but she insisted that they get rid of Uncle Horace themselves. In the end, the Ghostbusters captured a ghost haunting Horace's house and helped Uncle Horace discover that what he needed was to say goodbye to his niece. After Uncle Horace peacefully dispersed, John decided to keep his house instead of selling it.
John notably gets names wrong, as he has referred to the Ghostbusters as the "Ghost Smashers" and the National Intruder as the "National Inquisitor." He is also very cowardly and easily frightened by ghosts.
- On page four of Ghostbusters Issue #5, John makes a non-canon in Manhattan.
