After a pair of Imps were imprisoned in the Little Black Box, it was kept in Uncle Gaylord's secret Hall of Humor beneath Gaylord's Joke Shop. After Gaylord's passing, Ray Stantz inherited the joke shop and accidentally opened the box. A short time later, the Imps escaped from the box. Eventually, Ray realized it was the key to trapping the Imps. Sure enough, the open box had the power to suck the Imps back in despite how powerful they had become. The Little Black Box was then thrown into a Trap.
