Rockefeller Plaza is a complex of 19 commercial buildings covering 22 acres built by the Rockefeller family in Midtown Manhattan in 1939.
During the Proteus incident, the Ghostbusters passed by Rockefeller on route to Gracie Mansion. The Art Deco statue of Atlas was possessed and hurled its globe at Ecto-1. The Ghostbusters were unable to confine nor destroy the statue and retreated to Rockefeller's ice rink. The statue shot a beam at the guys and teleported them to Limbo. Janine Melnitz and Slimer later arrived at Rockefeller in search of the Ghostbusters.
After the Vigo incident, a trio of ghosts called the Mean Green Teen Machine used a pay phone near the plaza to order pizza from every establishment listed in the phone book. The ghosts then descended on Midtown traffic and stole the deliveries.
